ND QB Camera

Postby PoconoPony » Wed Mar 23, 2011 8:36 pm

Brian Kelly talked about the cameras that have been installed on the quarterbacks' helmets this spring. One quarterback will be designated with the camera each practice.

“We have to do a great job of evaluating all of the quarterbacks. We’ve got depth, we’ve got guys that we believe have the ability to run this offense. We want to be able to evaluate all of the things they do. To make this a real competition, we have to look at every area of their decision-making. What the helmet cam allows us to do is really track the eyes of the quarterback through his progressions. If he’s staring down a particular receiver, you’re going to see that. If he’s moving his eyes through his progression, you’re going to be able to see that. It’s just another teaching tool for us during this period. It’s something we wouldn’t do in the fall, but when you have the opportunity to really evaluate each one of them individually with this camera, I think it’s going to be a good tool for us.”

“We had heard about the University of Colorado putting a camera together. We did some of our own work during the AFC convention. There were a couple of vendors who were talking about putting something together. I said, ‘Listen, the only way. It’s got to be light weight, it’s got to be portable. In other words, I don’t want to drill anything into the helmet. It’s got to be something that they can move off their helmet and it’s easy to download.’ A company came up with it and we’re giving it a run right now and we’ll see how it works.”

“We liked the way it tracked the eyes of the quarterback. I wouldn’t make too much of it other than it’s going to really allow us, especially with Dayne who’s been out a while, to see where he is. ‘Hey listen, you’ve progressed really well. Now, we’ve got to get you back to what you were doing early in the year.’”

“He didn’t even know it was on there. He really didn’t even feel it. Again that was part of the thing. We didn’t want it to feel like they were mic’d so to speak. They worried that it had audio on it. I said I wouldn’t allow that to happen.”

ND QB Camera

This may or may not catch on, but would think most good off. Coordinators and qb coaches know what kid is looking at without such a device. And until the qb is in a game situation, I don't think you are going to learn much from something like this anyway.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I have always wanted a helmet cam during NFL games to actually see what the QB was seeing. If this gets big I can't wait.
