UT has open date in '07... Anyone interested?Anybody want to make a road trip to Austin in 2007?----------
UT-Utah series canceled Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds said that school officials have canceled a three-year football series with Utah that was scheduled to begin in 2007. By terminating the contract, Texas has vacancies for home games in 2007 and 2009. In addition, the Longhorns had been scheduled to travel to Salt Lake City in 2008 as part of the 2-for-1 agreement. At this juncture, Dodds said no replacement opponents have been selected. -- Damien Pierce
although it would be nice to rekindle the old SWC rivalries, I'm for getting away from Copeland's schedule and getting teams on the schedule that Bennett would like to play. He's mentioned on numerous occasions that he would prefer to get wins in non-conf games (if you weren't aware, he's a student of the Bill Snyder model) this would generate numbers in the stands.
there was even talk last year of dropping OkSt for Grambling. It would sure be nice to play someone like that, go into conference play with a 2-1 or even 3-0 record and a heap of confidence. Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Did not Utah just beat A$M last week?

We already have two non-conference road games in 2007 (Wake Forest, TCU), and our only non-confernce home game is against Northwestern. If there ever was a year to schedule North Texas to the one-year deal, this would be the year. However, I believe Jim is looking for a multi-year deal for 2007-2010, where we would get the first home game. In that case, I'm hoping he can resign Baylor or Texas Tech.
Okay guys. First, Utah has a great team this year and are picked by a few in the national media to go undefeated, so that wasn't a huge upset since A&M is miserable (playing with guys that Fran didn't even recruit to TCU). So saying a top 20 team beat an unranked team is hardly the same as saying SMU has a chance against UT.
And I'm a big a fan of SMU as any, but I am also a realist and I would love to be proven wrong, but before you can win against a team consistently ranked in the top ten, you have to prove you can win against someone. I think we will do it this year, but definately not a top ten team. If SMU were to make the strides that Utah has made in the last few years, Texas would likely drop us too. There's a reason that UT won't play TCU. They're afraid of the upset. I want SMU to win as badly as everyone here, but don't think that playing top ten teams and hoping for the upset like UNT is the way to get there. Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
I always thought UT had no reason to schedule us, because they play in the Cotton Bowl every year already anyway.
Re: UT has open date in '07... Anyone interested?
I don't want to see Tech again as long as Leach is coaching.
I'm sure Copeland is making an obligatory call to them. But since they play in Dallas every year, I don't see them agreeing to play in Ford. Now they might agree to a game in Dallas at Texas Stadium or the Cotton Bowl against us. But it would be 2-1 in Austin. I suspect Copeland might work to move Wake or TCU around a bit. It wouldn't hurt the program to play the Horns.
I think that article also said the horns were looking for someone like UNT who will play all the games in Austin. I'd like to play UT, but we need Big 12 rentafans in Ford so thats a NO GO.
The question remains: will Mack Brown even be with the Teasips in 2007? My prediction is that he will be standing in the unemployment line after this season concludes. While I don't think the Mustangs will be ready for taking on the Teasips in 2007, nothing would give me more pleasure than seeing us BEAT THE HELL out of 'em in Austin if we did start this series.
Re:
I like our current coaching situation, but if Mack Brown is in the unemployment line in 2007 and we haven't at least inquired, Copeland should be canned for that reason alone. The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

Not so fast, Mike. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post but your scenario almost sounds like deja vu. Remember a coach named Hayden Fry? I would HATE to see Coach Phil ousted after he's gotten the Mustangs on the winning track in favor of a 'big name' like Mack Brown.
Of course not. If Bennett turns this thing around, which I think he will, we should hang on to him for as long as we can. I was merely saying that if our situation is not much better and a coach with Brown's track record, and recruiting abilities in this state was available........
Its really a stupid conversation, because it would never happen. I was merely defending Brown's coaching ability and would be suprised if he was ever waiting in an "unemployment line."
