"But for the first time in my five years spent covering SMU Athletics, I can honestly say I'm grateful someone was able to put me in my place."

And for the 500th time in her five years of covering SMU Athletics she makes a very simple and fundemental mistake on the facts. She confuses the 08-09 season with the 09-10 season.

This is the DC beat writer for SMU Men's BB by the way.

The 2009-2010 season for the SMU men's basketball team finally ended at 9-21. The team won only three games in league play and was winless on the road. For the third year in a row the Mustangs failed to advance past the opening round of the Conference USA Tournament.
- This was actually the 2008-2009 season. In 2009-2010 SMU finished 14-17.

At the beginning of last season, I had made the switch from covering the women's team and was there every step of the way to witness the men's team pick themselves back up after every loss and try again.
I'll be honest, it was becoming incredibly challenging to find a tactful way to recap another loss.
That season ended with back-to-back losses to Houston. Finally it was over.

- Again, this is the 08-09 season.

Starting things off with a five-game winning streak before league play began, the Mustangs had already tied the total number of wins they had last year.
- 9 wins tied them with the 2008-2009 team but left them 5 wins short of the 2009-2010 team

With 20 wins on the season, the Mustangs finished with the most wins in one season since 1999-2000, posting the best field goal, three-point and free throw percentages in over a decade. Not bad for a team that won only nine games the year before.
- Again, 2008-2009 season

You should write the editor and him/her know. This is ridiculous.

In my 5 years on campus I would always read the sports articles and catch mistakes. Just wrong information. The DC's sports writers are not involved with the schools sports at all it seems.

I emailed the sports guy a couple of times when I was at school and corrected him, but I got nothing back so I stopped.

I'm especially angry at the snip made @ the band. We didn't cover that game because we had to cover a football game that day. This was the ONLY game during the ENTIRE season missed. Football games for band members start often early as 10am with morning rehearsals, and subsequent parade and pregame. It's quite insulting, enough for me to think of writing to the editor.

I'm not the person who commented on their story btw.

The first line of the story is: "I hate being proven wrong...."

I won't say it. Some things are just too easy.

Not starting a "the band was better when I was in school argument" - that would be reserved for the band message board.

But, there always seemed to be at least one and sometimes two doubles every season (and this was with off-campus football) and we always did both games. It's part of the deal...

Seriously, how could you not want to be at a basketball game that is right there anyway?

The DC story is still horrible though.
