Also keep in mind deferred compensation. A-Rod probably has about 2/3 of it deferred for another 20-30 years. Although once you starting getting over a Million a year, you might as well take it all, because the bracket is maxed out anyway.

You are going to max out the tax bracket under all conditions so it does not matter if it is deferred or not. I am sure ARod insures that he is not a resident of NY or NYC which have killer taxes. It is likely he is a Florida resident and on pays NY taxes based on a prorated calculation of the actual number of days he was physically in NY.

actually, if he resides in florida for 6 months and 1 day he does not have to pay NY taxes.

that is absolutely false. he would still have to file a partial year return. Not only have I personally filed a New York tax return for a tax year where I did not work there for more than 6 months in my last job (at a big 4 accounting firm), I am the controller of a large national partnership that has to file for partial years for hundreds of individuals each year.

Athletes have to file in every state where they play a game as their source income is generated in that state and teams are required to track it. It is just prorated based on total dollars not days.

Correct, I've had to file state returns in NM and LA the last few years due to the time I've spent there which is only a few weeks per year. It's all a function of your earnings generated working in other tax jurisdictions.

That's correct. Retirees are treated differently because the DTF looks at dollars earned and days worked.

As a fan of another NFC Team... I am hoping this reaches Roger Goodell's desk when he is in one of his "This gives the league a black eye" moods.

Stlhockeyguy02 - A-Rod's contract with the Rangers had a deferral agreement in it. I don't think the specifics of the agreement were ever made public. But you can defer up to 49% of your annual salary. You don't pay taxes until you actually receive the money. The Yankees or Rangers might still be paying A-Rod 25 years from now, depending on what that agreement said. A lot of people who make big $$$s do this. You defer the income until retirement when you are no longer bringing a big salary, this reduces your tax burden. In A-Rod's case until he relocates to Florida where there are no income taxes. The money is also held in interest bearing accounts so his money is still growing while the club has it. Boras would still get his cut of these funds, because he negotiated the contract that gave him the money, unless A-Rod paid the 6% up front to further reduce his tax burden for those years.

NY is really good at going after retirees in FL. People who retire and relocate to FL are fair game in the eyes of NY. NY views you as their resident until the end of that 6 months plus one day. This means NY can come after you until you establish another residence and demand their pound of flesh.

Move to general board? Has nothing to do with SMU, and by now it has nothing to do with football.

how long have you been posting on this website? 8 years?

have you still not figured out that just about all threads degenerate into senseless babble after the first page?

It's the off season, spring ball hasn't started, and we don't even know who our new ST coach will be, and anything from Rivals/Scout seems to be met with "OMG all they do is write stuff about kids who will maybe, possibly, one day be at SMU"

Wah, Wah. Dez Bryant was mentored by Neon Deion, who also mentored E. Sanders. SMU has enough money to pay Dez's bills. There's your SMU connection.

Heard on the radio this afternoon that he was going to pay them back. You would think they had asked before filing a lawsuit. This guy needs better handlers
