I bet even June Jones can see value in renovating Moody since it does a lot more than an IPF would in upgrading our application resume to potential BCS Conferences or at least higher profile conference. Its another more important check on the Checklist. Get Moody done and our facilities checklist for Conference realignment purposes is complete

$10 million would pay for the demo and a new paint job. It is hard to put a price tag on the thing without seeing the plans, but with a general idea of what has been tossed around over the past decade, I would imagine the truth probably lies around $40 million for the renovation. If the number reaches $80 million, expect the best venue for its size in the entire country, maybe even gold plated urinals.

Someone mentioned Ford only cost $50 or $60 million, but it was also bid out almost 15 years ago ('97 most likely) and that was before China, India and the middle east ramped up and pushed building material prices through the roof. So using Ford as a pricing benchmark is no longer a good comparison. Also, while I love Ford and think it is a great venue, it was one of the first venues to be built in the wave of new athletic facilities and didn't have all the bells and whistles that are more common in today's stadiums and arenas. If Ford was built today I think the finish out would be nicer and it would cost at least double what it cost in the late '90's.

One last note, remodeling is not necessarily a cheaper option than a new build, especially on a building as complicated as an arena and as old as Moody. The contingency cost are huge because you never know what you'll find. Again, depending on the plans, and what they add or take away in the main seating bowl, there may be significant costs to add suites, reconfigure seating bowl, and most importantly provide ADA accessibility to all these areas.

Should be a fun process!

Thanks for your thoughts, RE. I for one am very excited we're doing a remodel as there is zero construction I've seen in the last fifty years that equals the old way. We simply don't build as well as we used to, probably I would guess because of the lack of availability of quality materials.

and let's not forget the new palace in Allen, which will seat only half of what Ford does...and it's estimated at $60 million

You've also got to figure there's asbestos removal in a building that old, even if it's a demo and rebuild.

A few million here, a few million there and things add up.

I am pretty sure this number includes other things. $40MM is more likely by the time you factor in asbestos removal, demo, disability act stuff, renovation, and the upgrades such as suites, club level seats, pole dancer pods..............

Maryland wanted to renovate Cole Field House instead of building Comcast many years back, and did a feasibility study that had the renovation as costing more than a brand new build.

Based upon the chatter that is out there...this number may be inflated for expansion purposes...

We may be making a last pitch to the big east as Nova has until end of month to decide whether they can get up to speed to join as football member...

No coincidence that Houston is announcing naming rights sometime next week on their new stadium, which looks like it will get paid for by some Houston companies...

Just a thought....

Does anyone know what's going on with the Nova situation? How serious are they about an FBS program?

Talk is that they could be ready by 13 at the earliest, but the big east new TV deal will need to be done in 12....

This makes sense, but for the life of me, I can't stand the thought of the Big East. We'd have to start cheating again to compete in hoops, cause they all do

I wouldn't sweat it...I don't see any scenario where we are marketable to them...
