Totally speculating, but I wonder if the IPF and Natatorium are part of this.

I'm reflecting upon some conversations I had with Tim McMurray about 4 months ago. He said they were really amping up try and get some big projects going.

Should be interesting to see how this unfolds.

you have got to be right, no way in the world would the interior by itself cost 80 million unless it was all going to be covered in gold.

Total conjecture on my part, but I bet that the exterior changes a bit as well.

Moody Renovation - $80 million

Postby couch 'em » Mon Apr 11, 2011 7:28 pm

There are BCS bball arenas that have cost well over $80mil. A major redo of Moody (more than just the facelift and concourse expansion we expect) could cost a great deal.

Agreed. State of the Art gym w/an older shell is an overhaul. UTAs new gym is like 60 mil, I thought

For UTA, or a Moody overhaul for us?

UTA

80 mil would be a spectacular waste for us if it all got spent on the interior, the outside could use a facelift.

I feel certain the wooden seats will be tossed. Hate to see them go. Classic. And not uncomfortable in the least. Except maybe for fat arses who go home with arm-rest imprints on their luv handles. Capacity will most certainly be lowered with the incorporation of larger (plastic) chairbacks to provide for the widening of America - and the need for the cup holder to keep that sugar drink from getting booted. Suites for the wine and cheese(y) crowd are a given. I just hope that some intense thought is given the entire seating layout for the current PP sections and courtside.

It would be hilariously sad if the announced capacity drops 700-1200 seats...because we installed luxury suites? No! The average seat was was increased 2.3 inches in each direction to accommodate the "21st century American." We can install escalators instead of those awful, torturous stairs that Americans have to bravely struggle with far too much in their lives.

because wood warps in extreme humidity. the ball would bounce in every direction. i also don't want my football team huffing chlorine fumes 2 hours every day.

The world tried that in the 50's, 60's and 70's and got us venues like RFK and San Diego Stadium/Jack Murphy/Qualcomm. Doesn't work on the college level with multiple teams needing access for training, practice, games, etc.

Wasn't the Natatorium a "Gymatorium" at one point with a movable court over the pool?

No the natatorium was the gym....once moody was built they dug the pool...

The natatorium is a cool looking building, wondering how much a renovation of that would be as opposed to totally new complex...
