Ohio State Articlehttp://deadspin.com/#!5795313/jim-tress ... fect-coach
Best Quote of article... Jim Tressel could have run to the Compliance Office the minute he heard about Pryor. The school would have investigated, would have been forced to go to the NCAA, tail between legs. But do you know who self-reports violations? Small-time programs.
Re: Ohio State ArticleI disagree with the assumption in the article. Had Tressel done the right thing (squeal like a Deliverance pig to the NCAA) then nothing, I mean nothing would have happened. The NCAA would proclaim that self reporting worked like a charm and OSU could claim it was an upright member of the NCAA and committed to doing the right thing. There is no violation great enough when committed by one of the NCAA's big time programs that would warrant a severe penalty.
Tressel was wrong and has caused OSU more embarrassment and suspensions than needed.

Re: Ohio State ArticleOhio State received Official Notification from the NCAA today (4/22 - 5 1/2 months after this came to light) that an investigation into this matter is commencing. I am not sure what the NCAA has been doing for the past five months, but here comes the real cover-up.
I do agree with the writer on one point - Tressle is about to take one for the team. Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall
Re: Ohio State ArticleLooks pretty clear cut. Nothing happens to sacred cow OSU for the foreseeable future. And odds are nothing happens ever besides triple secret probation.
Re: Ohio State ArticleI'm sick of hearing about this stuff. Seriously. No major program will ever be given a sufficient penalty in relation to its violations ever again. You can't take down an Ohio State or a Texas or an Oklahoma or a Florida, etc....These schools are too powerful and generate too much money. The NCAA is a WHORE to the big boys. Plain and simple.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Ohio State ArticleTo fill in for Stallion who would correctly point out:
None of this is as bad as what we did, there was no rubber stamp by the University to let the program or boosters do whatever they want.
Re: Ohio State ArticleThere was no rubber stamp but if you honestly think the higher ups at Ohio State, USC, Alabama, you name 'em didn't know about what was going on w/ their athletic programs you are naive to the point of stupidity. And if by some miracle they didn't know, it was b/c they didn't want to know.
Back off Warchild seriously.

It's about time!!!!
Re: Ohio State Article
Which is why I absolutely HATE Texas!!!!!!!!!
Re: Ohio State Article
No rubber stamp by the University---who is kidding whom here?!? These schools are PROFESSIONALS at what they do--------in every sense of the word and at ALL levels!!!!!!
Re: Ohio State Articlecome on-we are talking about a coverup of tatoos. Some of you have no perspective. The NCAA is following up on the coverup part and indications are there has and will be sanctions for the Big Tatto Coverup of 2011. But to say this proves the NCAA will never fairly sanction the big schools(and the corrollary SMU got screwed!!!!) just shows how prejudiced SMU fans are when weighing the violations.

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Ohio State Article
Yes, I am prejudiced about the DP given to SMU because there are lots of other schools that have broken rules and there is NOTHING ever done to them. Yes, we were wrong to do what we did, but seriously, Texas taxpayers money has supported ut players for years and no one even looks their way. I just think if an organization is going to have rules then they have to be followed by all and if not, the offenders need to be penalized equally rather than on a pick and choose basis.
Re: Ohio State Article
As a USC alum I respectfully beg to differ. I was at the Spring Game Saturday and the Trojan Offense is lacking in both depth and skill. Although the Defense looked good they were playing the USC Offense after all! ![]() The recruiting sanctions are starting to be felt. ![]() SMU - IT'S YOUR TURN

Re: Ohio State Article
Obviously, I think we all see where you are coming from but even USC is different from these other big schools that don't get in trouble we are talking about. USC is basically a successful SMU (granted I will give you that USC is so much more visible in that it basically functions as LA's football team and recently was almost a dynasty). But still, USC is a private school comparable in size to SMU, with plenty of cash and a great reputation as an institution aside from football. A hurting football program is not going to really mess with USC all that much. Sure, it sucks, but USC is fine and most people have started to forget aside from USC people and sports journalists. My point I guess is, the NCAA isn't really [deleted] too many people off by coming down on USC. It is a big story, but in the end there really are not that many people (when looking across the landscape of big teams in Col FB) that went to USC and are truly directly affected by the sanctions. Think about the complete poo show that would ensue if something similar happened to a massive state school like Ohio State or Florida, I am not even thinking DP here, just USC sanctions or even something lesser. I am sure the shear quantity of people that would upset, by itself, terrifies the NCAA. Usually, the team that scores the most points wins the game - John Madden
