Mel Delaura FYI...
After witnessing the huge turn around at UH spear headed by none other than June Jones i got to see a lot of things. Mels program is notorious for getting our players injured... EVERY SEASON we'd have a dozen or so players with shoulder problems and hammy problems, some even had to quit because of their injuries... We had a top WR with sprinter speed quit because his injury wouldnt heal... I know a lot of you are trying to give him the benefit of the doubt but im sorry its going to keep happening or its going to get worse... this season, "knock on wood", we havent had much injuries after mel left and our new SC trainer came in...
again, i understand football is physical, but when half of your starter and back ups are injured with all of them suffering the same injuries it kinda says something...
only reason mel is at SMU is because JJ is loyal to those who support him, he was one of the biggest supporters and friends of JJ...

Re: Mel Delaura FYI...
did you happen to spot half of SMU's Coaches on Hawaiin Beaches during February thorough April when most staffs were working the recruiting trail?

This post would have been better timed last year...because the fact is that Hawaii has *more* injured players missing the Spring than SMU. For example, both starting DTs, some DEs, the LB that led the team in tackles last season (that is over half of the returning starters), and many others.
Navy has had more than twice the injuries than SMU this spring. Maybe that is De Laura's fault also?
Re: Mel Delaura FYI...
This guy must have something against Mel....tired story and why keep posting? Mel adjusts his ways of conditioning just like all professionals in the trade. Injuries are cyclical on all teams and the guys look big and strong and he has them stretching and sprinting etc...whats the problem?

Also, and I hope this is not true of our guys, but a lot of players "tweak" hamstrings when they just do not feel like running on a warm spring day with no game in sight.

I have always felt like we have just as many, if not more, players get injured in camp as we would if June had allowed full contact

Not only is Mel bad at his actual job, he is a jerk and none of the players like or even respect him.
Good riddance to this clown, definitely one of the worst of June's cronies.

Man you guys are harsh. Are the equipment guys and janitorial staff terrible people as well?

Re: Mel Delaura FYI...
Last year at this time I spoke with the parent of a then receiver on the team. I asked why his son was not playing. He shook his head and indicated that Delaura had charge of a conditioning drill that week and failed to warm up any of the kids before running the hill. 7, yes 7, of the kids tweaked hammies and were not playing that game. He was highly critical of DeLaura and his lack of knowledge and sensitivity as to what he was doing. Apparently, this was just another of a long litany of conditioning issues and injuries suffered under his supervision.

When I look at our Junior/Senior lineman, I see guys who are 30-40lbs lighter than they should be.

Maybe they can put a mirror in the weight room. I see exactly the opposite when I look in one.
