The U.S. News Undergrad ratings this year just came out a few months ago as I recall and there was a thread on this board about it.. can anyone go back and find it? I do recall SMU was 25 or so spots ahead of TCU.. I was actually surprised.. SMU made huge gains in the last couple years... if TCU OWNS SMU wants to talk smack.. someone please give him the link to these statistics..

U.S. News was sourced earlier in this string....
I think this case has been rested - on to the game.

Remember that source is now 5 years old, so back then TCU and SMU were ranked the same. But I have a feeling that in 2010, when US News actually ranks this year's incoming class, TCU will be tier 1...leaving SMU in tier 2.
It's a shame there is not a better ranking than this one, which is outdated and based reputation from other schools administration.
The bottom line, TCU is more selective. TCU students were superior in HS class rank and TCU students were superior standardized test scores. Those are the facts.

TCU being a superior education and a more elite academic school is not news. TCU has been ahead of SMU for the past 3 years in-a-row. TCU is now more selective than UT, and second in the state behind Rice. The application rate to TCU for 2004-2005 was 8,059. That is an increase of 5.3% over 2003 and 31.3% over 2002.
TCU offered admission to 63.9% of applicants. In 2003 it was 64.9%. In 2002 it was 71.4%. That admission rate makes TCU as the second most selective university in the state, after Rice. It's a lower admission rate than SMU, Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UH, and UNT.
The 2004 freshman class numbers approximately 1,620 (exact final number still to come), which is the largest freshman class in TCU history. It is not only the largest, but the most accomplished. The average SAT score was 1175. (In 2003 it was 1168. In 2002 it was 1134.) The average high school class rank of these freshmen was #20.
I need a source of your stats for a new TCU student I know.

This whole thread is laughable. There is a football game in two days, this is a football board and we have a couple TCU and SMU guys whipping out their academic weinees to see who's is bigger!!!
Can't wait for the game on Saturday....remember...the FOOTBALL game Look forward to seeing a lot of pony fans at the game!

Well, TCU has at least a couple graduates each year with half a brain! We just try to do our best to keep up with the mighty academic power to the East
We'll see about that bold prediction regarding the skillet. Thanks for the offer of the beer but I had surgery earlier this week and I'm on pain killers. So, I don't need beer to be loopy this week. In fact, that's probably why my posts are actually making some sense this week!!!
See ya Saturday!

Thanks PK! I just get tired of hearing the academic arguments over and over and over. In the big picture, SMU and TCU are pretty close and smart people choose to go to both schools for various reasons. Does it really matter if SMU or TCU is ranked 20 spots ahead of the other? It doesn't to me.
PK - what are your thoughts on Bennett? I really hope SMU continues to improve because I really liked Bennett when he was an assistant at TCU my senior year.

Frawg - It nice to be polite to others but don't sell yourself short. You received a superior education and attended a much more elite school. You can be humble and avoid the topic but don't tell them lies, that SMU is somehow on the same level as TCU. Its unfair to them, and you're getting their hopes up.

I think given the time to build up the talent level of our team (which he is doing) he is going to do very well here. He definitely has a passion for the game and for SMU, which is more than I ever felt when I was around our last coach. I think he sees his position here as more than just a job. I know that every time after I hear him talk to a group...I'm ready to suit up and go play for him. He is a great motivator and I can understand why he does well in recruiting. I hope he is here for a long time.

The academic b.s. was started by TOS - when someone says something obviously incorrect it will be corrected - if you had to pick one school above the other on academics - SMU is the one all independent sources pick - does not mean TCU is a bad school.
For the fourth time - enough of that, lets play ball.
