UNT Lookout! There is Competition in the Suck Belt

Postby stang_fan » Thu Sep 09, 2004 9:46 pm

I was disapointed last week when our future conference foe Marshalll lost to the miserable Troy State by 2 points. Apparently troy may be for real! They beat Mizzou 24-14 tonight!
We must shake the \"snob\" reputation. Bring Dallas back to SMU.

Troy State is a former member of the Southland Conference and was VERY powerful in that Div.1-AA arena for many years. They were constantly battling with McNeese State for the championship year in and year out. Many SLC opponents laughed when Troy State jumped to Div.1-A status. Be prepared for McNeese to do the same one of these days.

Mizzou entered tonight ranked 11th.
Great win for Troy State. Congrats.

Actually the writers and coaches polls had mizzo at 17th and 19th, not necessarily in that order.

And Troy State is now Troy University, kinda reminds me of NTSU or whatever their name is now.

And yes, it looks like NTSU, oh or is that UNT, is in danger of missing their conference title.
Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!!

It's the University of North Texas and you know that's what it is.

Also, why does everyone in the non BCS seem to base everything on one game these days? UNT handily beat Troy U last year at Fouts Field (also on ESPN II) and by this mid season I believe Darrell Dickey will have his team where they would beat them again (if they were only on the schedule).

And the TEXAS game? We got waxed by the best Longhorn team I've seen UNT play and that includes the 1976 DKR coached Longhorns in 1976. The Horns won that game 17--14 on a late 4'th quarter run by Earl Campbell.

I also remember NORTH TEXAS opening another season with a 61 to 7 loss to a Big 12 school and then our team coming back later that same Fall to beat the University of Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville in what many of our alums call our school's biggest football win, right up there with UNT's New Orleans Bowl win against the, uh, "CUSA" 2002 champion.

Good luck against TCU.

I don't think we should worry about UNT b/c they have been better than us for the last several years and they have won 3 straight conference titles under the great Ramon Flanigan and Darryl Dickey, regardlesss of what they do this year. Remember we are 0-13 and just need a win.

I am sure that the current WAC is glad to see SMU leaving given that since the 2002 season we have only won 3 games and currently have the second longest losing streak in the country. Both the current members of CUSA as well as the teams joining when we do probaly wonder what SMU is brining to the table with regards to football - for the very same reason! It is hard for SMU and its fans to question any program given the dismall performance that ours has made on the field. It's hard to say if we would even be enjoying success like UNT is right now. Great job by Troy St Thursday night to do something that SMU has not done in at least 15 years - beat a ranked team.
