The B.S. (i.e. inaccuracies) were indeed started by TOS. I am correcting his falsehoods, and will continue to do so. Lets play ball.

Hate to burst your bubble, but at present, Baylor and SMU are snatching up applicants that didn't get admitted to TCU. You're still living in 1972.

stang_fan wrote:You want to talk academics? I'll talk academics. The reason no one is, is it is not a comparison. SMU is by far the best academic school in the Metroplex. We have also had our biggest number of people to apply ever in the history of the school in the past 3 years.
You're living in the past. TCU had over 9,000 applicants this year, SMU had around 6,000. TCU accepted less than 64% of applicants, SMU around 70%. Many accepted at SMU were kids who did not get admitted to TCU. SAT scores are about dead even at both schools. SMU has better grad programs, TCU better undergrad. Faculty? At TCU 92% of faculty have terminal degrees. At SMU, it's 86% (according to the SMU website).
Bottom line is, there's not a great deal of difference between the two, other than cost -- a category where SMU clearly exceeds TCU by a large margin. But as regards to academic profile, TCU has become the second-most selective university in the state, after Rice. The numbers don't lie.

Also there life science faculty is sub-par as all their research is on dated projects that are not of national or global interest.
Boy, did you get a wrong number. TCU's pre-med program has a med school acceptance rate of 1-1/2 to 2 times the national average (about 80%), which is the highest in the state. It is definitely the most rigorous pre-med program in Texas. Just ask the admission officers at Southwest Med School in Dallas. They'll confirm it.

You can't rely much on the U.S. News numbers. Because of the lead time required to gather and correlate that data from so many schools, those numbers are at least 2 years old. A much better source is the websites of the schools in question, where the data is usually less than a year old.

Agreed...I just hope they don't start comparing their women to ours. That's a no brainer right there and no...it isn't TCU that's got the better of the two.

Good to hear that. I knew when I was in college in 90's, TCU was the best pre-med in the state. I hadn't read anything recently, but nice to see we are still best pre-med in the state. Also nice to see SMU is a school comprised of TCU's leftovers. Apparently football players as well as students.
