obviously I wasn't at the game, but will confess to being among those who was optiimistic we would be more competitive. The fact is that TCU, TTech, OSU, Fresno & Boise have far more talent and experience than we do right now and we're going to take some beatings this year.
I will continue to follow and support these guys and hope we can pull off a couple of wins this year to gain some momentum for next year. I still hope to be competitive next year...but expect to be very competitive in CUSA by the 2006 season when this year's sophs are seniors earning their 4th letters.
only semi silver lining, ok maybe aluminum lining, I could find would be Wilton McCray, and even he was limping on the sidelines towards the end. But the freshman made many tackles at least 5 or 6 I can remember, including a few running down Hobbs form across the field and also a "big" stop on one of the goal line plays, too bad we let them score on the next play. He seems to have a good instinct for finding the ball something we need, on both sides of the ball. As for next week, I am not looking forward to the trip to Stillwater, the only positive I can think is they are running alot this year so hopefully that means the clock will also keep running and we can get out of the game without anyone getting seriously hurt. But I will be there and yelling for the ponies regardless.
I wasn't there last night so I can't comment on any witnessed events. I listened over the Net and I will describe how it sounded. First, it sounded like so many other games in the last two years. We couldn't seem to stop the medium/long pass. TCU seemed to be able to come up with 15-25 yard completions at will. The offense sounded like a Charlie Foxtrot on Quaaludes. Fumbled snaps, QBs running for their lives, passes under thrown.
That said, the team I witnessed against TT was much better. Played hard and made plays. I expect the Ponies to recover. We may not win at OSU but this is a team that can win. We have some talent and we have people that can play. I don't know why we made TCU look like Nebraska of old but I believe this team can recover from this loss and improve and win this year.
TCU is bigger, stronger, faster, tougher, experienced at winning. What th' heck did you think was gonna happen? Get a grip. They're a helluva lot better than we are... probably more than 44 points better.
Re:
After last night, people sound as if we couldn't beat a HS team. Last week, people were suggesting that if we played against everyone the way we played against Tech, we'd win 6 or more games, and there was even mention of a bowl game. So now that reality has set in, can I suggest that reality is somewhere in between? Growing up takes a while, and last night -- painful though it was -- might have been valuable in the learning process. All depends on how we react to it, of course.
Sat. night I turned over to ESPN to see the ticker on the scores, when I saw 38-0 in the third, I loaded a DVD into the machine and watched a movie with my wife. I appreciate the comments of those who saw the game, it really communicates a lot to those of us in distant areas. Last year the team quit mid season. OSU will be ready for us and will try go for a big lead and coast. Hopefully, the kids will be up and ready for SJS. I fear that if they lose that game, we'll be Ohfor 04. UTEP won Saturday. Boise, Fresno both walloped good BCS teams.
Re:
UTEP better had won Saturday...they were facing Weber State for crying out loud. ![]()
1-AA Weber StateThat would be 1-AA Weber State that is ranked as the 6th best team in the Big Sky. Only Eastern Washington and Sacramento State are worse according to Sagarin.
