TCU 22 SMU 0

Postby Stallion » Sun Sep 12, 2004 3:30 am

ALL 22 starters on TCU's team outplayed all 22 starters on SMU's team. There were no highlites- there were no bright spots. Tony Eckert damn sure wasn't a bright spot-he threw three passes right into the hands of TCU players in a half of play. It was complete and total domination. 'Nuff said.

Hasn't anyone at SMU learned anything? We can't compete. Until/unless SMU decides to fully compete at the d-1 level we are all wasting our time.

Those of you who weren't there don't know how bad it was. I left with a few minutes to go in the 4th quarter. Listening to the radio on the way home Swan was his usual overly optimistic self. Yes we are young and yes we had injuries on the D but that is no reson not to score. Some bad calls and drops? Yes. So what. Get over it and do something. We are light years away from being respectable. It's hard to even think in those terms.

We must decide if we are truly committed to winning at the highest level. I see no evidence of it. We talk the talk but don't walk the walk. The playing field with other teams has to be completely level, not partially as it is now. Goes for coaching too.

We are headed straight into another 0'fer season. Our only hope is that SJSU and Nevada are worse than us. Hard to think they could be. UTEP with Price should be much better by the end of the season.

Here's the bottom line. 1) We handcuff ourselves by not allowing ourselves to compete for players that every team in the nation recruits, especially jucos, as Stallion has documented ad infinitum. Duke and Vandy are a couple fo exceptions but in the BCS they have that luxury. We don't. 2) We take wild chances on d-1 assistant coaches hoping they will be good head coaches. UTEP just did a very smart thing. Price is going to turn them around. He is a proven d-1 head coach. The people in charge at SMU simply don't get it. They think they can go along pretending that we are the Harvard of the south and everything will be ok. Look at the results. We are not ok. We are pathetic.

Here's a newsflash: if you aren't in the BCS you better find a way to win or you are going to be out in the street.

we got beat at every position on the two deep roster too, so multiply it by 2 and make it 44-0. I agree that there was absolutely nothing positive about last night. Nothing. Nacho, I used to think the "understanding level" of what it takes to compete was there, just a little slow. Now I dont think it is. I got worried when they started waving the flag about having 6 jucos. Well, two of em were quarterbacks, we need even more help on the lines and at linebacker though. Those are the spots juco athletic talent was really needed. We got a couple other guys called Jucos who really just slipped through the cracks between high school and college and dont really have any juco game experience or development. They are no different than redshirts, maybe not even equal because they did not get a good year on the weights and in the system. We are still not recruiting the same guys TCU does and I dont think we will with this administration.

More troubling to me than the 44-0 blow-out was Turner’s comments regarding the Knight Commission findings. Makes you wonder how committed he really is to big time athletics. He and our administration are the problem, not Bennett. Can you imagine the president of TCU taking the same position?

This burns me to no end. We are being schooled by programs not worthy of carrying our jockstraps.

Irony is in the end, I’m convinced our academic reputation also suffers... guess Turner strongly disagrees.
