Do recruiting critics want it both ways?Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Do recruiting critics want it both ways? You can come and talk to me in person...section 308 row 2...I don't need to flex message board muscles...Beer on me...
Just disappointed in our progress....Not upset at the results the past couple of years but we need to be building, not maintaining...
Re: Do recruiting critics want it both ways?
How do you know that we're not making progress?
Re: Do recruiting critics want it both ways?
I just happened to look at this one kid's page who has a lot of BCS offers. By coincidence, SMU offered within the last couple of days? He's in South Texas. But according to Nick, that's horrible because this offer didn't come through earlier. ![]()
Re: Do recruiting critics want it both ways?It doesn't help to be late to the party...
Maybe our [deleted] is getting noticed
Re: Do recruiting critics want it both ways?
You're right. That's exactly what it is. And when you read about these other Texas schools JUST NOW offering Texas kids, they must be late to the same party. ![]()
Re: Do recruiting critics want it both ways?We aren't them...We need to be better than them....
Re: Do recruiting critics want it both ways?SMU is just now in last 3 weeks or so making some progress in Texas. We are far far far behind just about every other school though. Rice has academic restrictions. UT is filling up as is TCU which is being very selective. We aren't where we should be.

Re: Do recruiting critics want it both ways? That's fair and unbiased as far as our toehold in the Great State of Texas. Hopefully we'll make some more progress in our backyard. But, please, what do you think about how the class appears to be shaping up as a whole at this early stage of the game?
Re: Do recruiting critics want it both ways?
I think you can remove a couple of references to far on your post. I maitained that I wanted to see how things progressed through the May evaluation period. I maintained that SMU having spring football put in in March and pushing spring football back to May impacted this to an extent. The fact that more offers went out this month did nothing to surprise me. In fact, I said if SMU was still lagging during the month, I would be disappointed. I am not. Now, it's a case of getting kids to the camps and see what happens after that.
Re: Do recruiting critics want it both ways?No I'll stick with my assessment. They are easily bringing up the rear as far as contacting and offering Texas recruits and they basically took a pass on the vast majority of Texas Top 100s-about 60% of which have already committed

Re: Do recruiting critics want it both ways? What you haven't yet argued convincingly is why a class composed of solid prospects from outside of Texas should be dismissed out of hand. The only argument presented so far is that this will affect our *future* classes due to a perceived lack of roads being built in state. If that's your argument, I might buy it and I might even join in your concern. But I am asking a specific question. If you ignore where they're from, how do we appear to be doing in recruiting so far this year? If you don't know, or don't have enough information to make a judgement, just say so.
Re: Do recruiting critics want it both ways?that's because I'm ignoring every uninformed concept that comes off your fingertips because I don't respect your knowledge or understanding of the subject matter. I've stated that I respect the opinions of the hundreds of Coaches that have recruited Texas that have chosen not to do what June Jones has done this year. You can agree with everything June Jones says all you want-the overwhelming consensus of Coaches in the industry have chosen not to ignore Texas. I'll stick with that opinion based on 40 years of observing recruiting in Texas. When you name 1 Texas Coach in 40 years that has successfully ignored Texas then I might respond to your nonsense

Re: Do recruiting critics want it both ways?I ask, as I have for years, because I want to learn. That's my only motive. But I just had an epiphany. I have for too long overestimated your competence. You are very solid in some areas and very, very limited in others. My question is a very good one. You are incapable of understanding it. I'm sorry to have troubled you.

Re: Do recruiting critics want it both ways?I think the bigger point is how many issues we look at...
whether it be making no inroads in the state of Texas, having one guy carry all the weight with your out of state recruits...or having a older, homogenous, non-relatable, non-recruiting coaching staff... You can make counter arguments for all of these, but they exist and they are issues....the fact that you have to argue them with such force to me means that they need to be discussed... If you were a consultant at another school and saw the same things happening, you would be saying the same stuff... Why are you so against constructive criticism and suggestions? Don't build a good team, build a program....
Re: Do recruiting critics want it both ways? How do you feel about the current class as it's shaping up, Nick?
