Wow, I definitely wouldn't have expected anyone from that staff to surface again making waves. Rusty Burns doesn't get much credit for putting together a pretty darn good offense his last couple years here, and he wound up as like an assistant QB coach with TCU.

Eric Roark is at UTSA as well

The June Jones era has yet to come close to the offensive production of the best Rusty Burns year.

Re: The Great Jim Gush
yeah Burns got a lot of criticism for losing games 41-38 which we actually should have won with a little defense

The lack of defense was a surprise as PB is a good defense man.

So was Wade Phillips. Some people are better as assistants than head coaches...PB was a prime example.

Re: The Great Jim Gush
PB was 1-10 at TCU as DC in 1997 under Pat Sullivan's last year there. Then PB was DC at OU for a year during their last and only loosing season. Somehow PB got the job to take over an excellent 10-1 team record at K-State the year before he got there as DC from a Mike Stoops coached Defense who had left and went on to win a National and many Big 12 Conference Championships at OU with brother Bob. After taking over an excellent defense there, PB did pretty good at K-State before late 1990s powerhouse K State dropped to a 6-5 team record the year before PB take over at SMU. PB also was part of a staff as DC at LSU that got fired in the 1990s before the year at TCU.....Pitt ??? Well again the staff got fired. So his record as a D1 DC is in all honesty somewhat questionable. But good luck at Baylor though.
Re: The Great Jim Gush
Gush came into our place a couple of weeks ago and left as every coach on staff's favorite recruiter so far. I don't know what he was like at SMU but he is awesome in the hs coach's office now. It has caused our HC and DC to really push some of our guys to go to the Baylor camp this summer. Jim is doing a great job.

Gush is also part of the mustache club. Definitely a PB guy as they share the same mouth and language on the field when talking to their players. Glad to know he is doing well because I always liked him. He was the most impersonated coach by the players.

He landed Allen LB Thaddeus Lagrone today offers from Michigan State, Nevada, and Iowa State (I think SMU thought he was too small for LB and didn't offer) and he is close to landing Keller Central players Zack Sanchez and Simon Goines along with DE Polo Manukainiu from Euless Trinity. He is our best recruiter by far. I don't know why he was stuck at Stony Brook with his recruiting touch. Does he suck as a LB'er coach?
Re: The Great Jim Gush
He's not a great coach, not a bad coach. I always liked him.

Re: The Great Jim Gush
I had a few friends on the team when Gush was a coach here and they did not like playing for him...said he had very little respect for the players. Complete opposite of how June & Co treat their players...

I understand that recruiting better than the opponents on your schedule is about 80% of the game.
