If your patience has run out, then run out and find another team. Why sit here whining? I'm with PK. Let's give Coach a chance.

Re:
I didn't say anything about my patience for the team, but I will say now that my patience for little sunshiners like you who can't stand a converse opinion has certainly worn thin. Being that there is no other team for me, I think I'll just stay here and voice my opinions and make you steam for the foreseeable future.
Yes, firing Copeland is the answer. After all, he (as well as many others) only got us into Conference USA (a much better conference for us that the WAC) despite the worse football season in SMU history and a complete collapse of the BBall team last year. That sounds pretty inept to me. sarcasm off
That said, Bennett has been here for 3 seasons and that isn't enough time to get all the athletes he needs to implement his defensive scheme. And we have a brand spanking new offense. We are trying to run that offense with youngsters. Time is needed to recruit the skill personnel to run Burns' offense as well. In the mean time, we are more athleltic than last year and we can compete better than last year. The special teams have improved. We will win this year. And get better next year. This team is like developing a good wine. It takes time and patience to develop the plants as well as time to age the wine.

I can stand a converse opinion. But I'm not going sit here and let you be wrong without comment. And if your patience for me is wearing thin then who's steaming who, counselor?
Johnny Rock is not psychologically tough enough to attend any more games. He needs his mommy to pat him on the head and tell him everything will be all right. Until mom does that, Johnny should stay home and play with his GI Joes where he always kills the bad guys. The world doesn't work that way, but Johnny will whine and cry because he can't do anything to change that.
East Stang, don't take your frustrations out on me. Actually, I attend all of the home games when I am in town. I am one of the few alumni that still attend games. I also plan on bringing a bunch of people with me to games this year. SMU could only be so lucky to have more alumni like me. For the record, I quit playing with GI Joe figures in elementary school. Good luck with your problems East Stang. A therapist may help.
Re:
I am certainly no martyr nor do I expect anyone else to be, but to lose patience with this team and this coach because of the previous 12.5 years which they had no part of is not fair. If people really cannot see the difference then there is nothing I can do. There really is no way that this train wreak is going to be repaired overnight...plain and simple. But equally plain and simple is that there is a repair team working to make it better...just give them the appropriate amount of time to accomplish the mission. I'm like you in that I have no desire to support any other team, so I'm sticking with this one. I just happen to think that positive support (sunshiner attitude) and constructive criticism is better than constant talk of doom and gloom and the sky is falling wailing that is often thrown out here as just being "realistic". As always...this is just IMHO.
EaStang is right. Why go to games, JR, after you threaten to not attend and withhold support.? Your conclusion is that a radical approach is needed including getting ride of the Athletic Department and all the FB coaches. Who is confused? It's not Eastang. Going to games is inconsistent with your perscription.

Please point out in my post to which you responded where I was "wrong" layman. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion about the state of this program, god forbid even the likes of you. And PK, in case you blinked, the train wreck has been going for 15 years now, and I state again I can see where people's patience is falling off--or are you saying that the current train wreck is only 2 1/2 years old, I can't really tell. In any event, on the field things appear bleaker since the "repair team" arrived. And I never advocated firing anyone, just that I understand those who are frustrated to that point. But if we go winless for two consecutive years, and what I saw Saturday gave me no indication that is an impossibility, I just may.
In response to my admirers, I have never been an advocate of not attending games. I also refuse (unlike many of you on this board and many in the athletic department), to ignore the realities of Division 1-A sports and SMU'S lack of success. It is important to realize, I do not complain that SMU lost on the last play of the game or that SMU missed going to a bowl game by one loss. I complain that SMU is in the mist of the worst losing record in the school's history. To add insult to injury, SMU plays in the WAC. I do not see why we will change our fortunes soon. I have been patient with the athletic program long enough. PK...how much longer should I, along with the restless others, wait for success? 5, 10, 15 years? Why is it that Tulsa has turned their program around with a new coach and we have gotten worse? Houston too? Many of you on this board call me names and that is fine. Call me a jerk. Call me an A-hole. Call me a troll. I can take it. However, I call it like I see it and you cannot argue with that.
Yes JT, let's forget the Tech game and any positive points of that game and concentrate on the TCU game were we could not have bought a break for all the tea in China. You are absolutely correct the sky is falling and we will have another o-fer season...feel better now? I have grown weary of making the positive case for supporting this team to people who do not want to hear it...so you win. I will make no further attempts to change your mind or Ponysnot's mind or JR's mind (an oxymoron if ever I've heard one). Have a nice day.
Re:
Before you shoot your dog over this, you are forgetting my mantra, PK, which is to have no expectations. I, therefore, am not disappointed by the record. I hoped for a better showing against both opponents, and even a win, but I did not expect it. I hope for a good showing this week also. Any positive developments this season will constitute a pleasant surprise for me. So you needn't worry about changing my mind, I simply look at the situation for what it is. Cheer up, man.
Re:
Jeez...now you tell me...and he was such a good dog.
WILDHORSE and all:
Copeland needs to be fired. For instance, Copeland hired Cossaboon last year only after failing to hire him back in 1997 when he first applied, he was the choice of the hiring committee but chose Greg Ryan who almost RUINED the Women's program in two years. Dement was Copeland's first hire in basketball, not a success. Cavan was Copeland's first hire in football after firing Rossley. Should have held on to Rossely who did more with less. Cavan's 1st year success was with all of Rossleys player. Suspending of the men's track team without giving the alumni a chance to first raise the money to support it, mistake. Should I continue.
Re:
Let me start by saying that I've tried peace offerings with you before JT. You've not responded yet. Your prejudice against "sunshiners" (another name for "optimistic fans") is nothing if not consistent. Like many in my experience who go off to law school only to have their hope surgically removed by the socratic method, you play the part well. To answer your question above, you are consistently wrong when you post gloom and doom. You WILL be proven wrong when Bennett turns this thing around.
