I'm not entirely sure to what degree it matters, but I find it interesting that 80% of students at Baylor are from Texas, 86% at A&M. At SMU it's 50%. We are just not a Texas school any more, but a national one. And becoming more so.

I'm entirely sure you don't know what you are talking about

BTW 19 out of 22 Starters against Army were Texans.

You're going to use that game to back up your "we need to recruit Texans" argument? Really?

Just shows the degree by which you are grasping at straws.

There is an old saying about SMU which has been around longer than you have been alive…”Southern Methodist University is neither Southern, nor Methodist, nor a University”.
The ‘neither Southern’ comment referred to the fact that so many of SMU’s students did not come from Texas or the South. When I attended during the Pony Express days, I believe ~half the students came from out of state, so this demographic statistic is no new phenomenon.

There is NO school in America that has more D1 high school talent within a 100-mile radius of its campus than SMU. When we do not actively recruit this area, or Texas for that matter, we are leaving money on the table. Everyone loves what Klemm has done in CA. We need 2 additional Klemms working Texas. Don't understand why some have difficulty with that statement.

Are there restrictions on the number of coaches a team can have? Could they raise $$ and hire a coach dedicated to area recruiting? I would contribute to that cause for sure.

The fact you have to ask whether we can hire a guy to recruit the area is the point...Pretty much everyone except JJ should be busting their butt...its not happening...

We had a huge opportunity to get a young special teams coach in here with experience in recruiting this area, but we went with our old standby...

Your question isn't dumb, but its dumb that no one on here can tell me who recruits DFW, who handles houston and who handles east texas...Ron Meyer's key areas fro success....

Hey at least we know who handles Cali, better than nothing...

Does everyone at least agree that all that matters is quality and fit of who signs (and of course shows up)? Can we at least agree on that? I am tired of arguing just for the fun of arguing.

One camp says that better focusing on Texas and earlier will increase that quality. Excellent. If so, I am all for it. Another camp says that, even though you live in Alaska on top of a known gold producing region, if you happen to find gold in Georgia, get the gold.

Whichever camp you belong in, can we at least agree that at the end of the day whatever technique brings in the most and highest quality gold is the technique we should be using? Can I at least get an amen on that? I mean, we are all here for the same reason, right? To show our support for SMU?

That will only end up with short term results....

Build a program not a team...

C'mon, Nick. Explain. You are the most cryptic poster I have ever known. Do you agree that we're looking for the most and highest quality gold? And that our disagreements are only about HOW to do that and that we all want what's best for SMU?

I'll say it again. We do want what's best for SMU, right? We're not here just to argue, right? We're not here to show how damned smart we are, right? We do just want the TRUTH of the situation -- not so we can say, aha! I had the truth before you, or hey look at me I'm now validated since I posted about this umpteen million times in the past twenty years -- but instead so that we can correct course if need be, right? We are all here in good faith to support our university, right?

Find me on the blvd if you want to continue these terrible rants, at least I won't be at work and will have multiple drinks in me. Plus, when I get bored of your argument, I can use the excuse I need to take my daughter to see SMU's one and only mascot, Peruna.

I'm tired of re-explaining what I would like to see us do, just as I bet many are tired of seeing me post it.

You seem to be fine with what is going on, and that is ok....I was fine for awhile but I have real expectations at 2.75 mil a year in year 4....

There is nothing cryptic about building a program...let me send you the instruction manual...

I am all for finding the best player available. However, there is a reason why all the schools out of Texas recruit in DFW, West Texas, East Texas, and Houston. It's a hotbed.

I wish we would have hired Ramon Flanigan for an open spot on the coaching roster.

I think this argument is getting stale.
