Hate the Yankees, but think Jeter is a great person and a good ballplayer.

Mr. Lopez raised a great son.

OK, so there is at least 1 respectable Yankees fan.

What will ESPN find to hype next?

Jeter makes an eight-digit salary even though he is an average hitter now with little power and a defensive range of about six inches. He can buy the damn ball back.

The big question is whether the kid will have to file a gift tax return for the gift to Jeter or whether Jeter will have a capital gain because he traded an autograph worth not much for a ball worth a few hundred thousand. I think that would be really funny.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

the kid got season tickets for the rest of the year and autographed stuff worth about $14,000. The question is it a reward, hence taxable or a gift, not taxable. The kid has so much class he already said he pay the tax if it was considered a reward. meanwhile he is getting checks to pay off his college loans. he seems like a real decent guy and various organizations are stepping up to reward or gift him for a decent unselfish act.

It's a gift, but the Yankees offered to pay his tax bill.
Still hate them.
