Much the same as reconstruction Govenors in the south, Dr. Turner can not change SMU with just his desire. The reason SMU and some of the crazy attitudes/regulations are in place can be attributed to the Faculty Senate.

My mother has two Masters Degrees from SMU ( Stat, and Calculus ) and taught there for decades so, I think I have a balanced outlook. Dr. Pye set up the Faculty Senate and they have the power. Yes, some are eggheads that see SMU as Harvard, Stanford or Rice, we are not.

SMU needs more degree programs for the physically minded and easier transfer requirements.

OK, I'll be blunt... I don't need a team with 70 to 80 percent graduation. I need a team with a 70 to 80 percent winning record.

Go Coach Bennett, All of us - Help change the Faculty Senate even more.

I like the fact that we have superior academics when compared to schools other than Harvard, Rice, etc. But you're right, I'd love to see more classes allowed as transfer credits so we can get some more players who can help us win games.

Maybe another winless or one win season and some embarressing losses along the way and five thousand in attendance to watch will help change things.

No question it'd change things--it would drop us down to Div 1aa under the new attendance rules.

Actually the faculty would like nothing better than for us to drop to 1-AA with schools like Harvard, Yale, Brown, Villanova, Georgetown, yada, yada, yada. I suspect there are many of them have been "holding the line" on easing restrictions so that we can join those august institutions. Never mind of course that 1-AA also includes such impressive academic institutions as Georgia Southern, Appalachian State, James Madison, Texas State, and Weber State who have less than impeccable academic credentials.

And never mind that - right or wrong - alumni donations to the school would plummet if we dropped a division. This can not be allowed to happen.
