They would probably be 10 point favorites...at least.
It could probably turn into a good rivalry.
I've been advocating a series with UNT since Matt Simon wanted to tee it up in the Safeway parking lot. By the way, does their campus radio station begin with a K?...

Its like tennis. You don't improve unless you play people better than you.
We need to schedule all our old SWC foes that we can because its fun
playing them, and the rentafans they bring also bring money, and help us
meet the 15000 attendance average needed for the NCAA.
However, that rule will go down in flames when they try to enforce it with
a school that REALLY wants to play division 1A ball, and has paid BIG
MONEY to improve their stadium to division 1A standards.

Easy, PK, potty humor is beneath you. I suffer from the malady known as "easily amused"....

I evidently suffer from the same malady...besides it was a slow day at work and I needed a good laugh.

Personally, I would and have made the trek to Dallas to see us play teams like the Aggies, Cowboys, and Frogs. I would not hop a plane to Dallas to see us beat up on Texas State or North Texas State (I'm sorry UNT). These games interest me. I will likely drive to ECU, Marshall games and have not missed any game SMU played at Navy since I attended SMU. Copeland is doing what he has to do build a crowd. SMU fans showed by their lack of interest that excellent teams from Boise State do not draw at SMU. Tech does. UTEP does. Now JR if you can buy enough tickets and drag enough people to the stadium to fill it for the Nevada game, then you can complain about Copeland's scheduling. Until we sell out and fill Ford for teams like Nevada, we have no choice but to schedule teams that will bring their fans to our stadium. I know some will say that if we win, we will fill Ford. Also UNT only drew 16,000 the other week when they played. Not a great crowd. We have nothing to gain by playing them, if we lose, it hurts us in recruiting, if we win, it was expected. There is no upside to that game at all. You might get 21,000 for a game with UNT.

Yeah, the A&M and OSU opponents will draw more interest. But I do agree that UNT will be good for the attendance, if nothing else. Not the sexiest matchup in the world, but not a bad game overall, for either program. (Maybe UNT offensive coordinator would stop by the banner in the Ford Stadium concourse commemorating his playing career at SMU!)
Would definitely rather see this matchup than Texas State, Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, etc.

I'd take 21,000 for a winnable non-conference game in a heartbeat. No offense, but to make the required attendance mark, we cannot count on east-coasters making the trek to Dallas. And losing to UNT doesn't hurt us any more in recruiting than losing to Rice or Tulsa or UTEP.

We still need to consider playing Grambling. Grambling means a SOLD OUT Ford and probably a big win ( san jose beat them pretty good last year) Our two games with Grambling 20 years ago were alot of fun. They have not beaten many Div.#1 programs that they have played but they always play with great effort and have a few NFL quality players on their team. Hey, thousands of people will come just to see the Grambling Band!
