Leopold was saying that nobody knows about it to infer that people doing the hiring at Tennessee don't know about it...IF, and that's a big IF, they are considering Orsini, they sure as hell know about it.[/quote]

Based on the dealings with the initial candidate that they were about to offer (TN had no clue about what was about to go down at GA Tech and how the AD was responsible), I would have to say that I am not so sure that TN or theie search firm is all that competent in knowing these candidates. As stated earlier - the TN athletic department is a total mess.

Agreed. I actually worry far more about losing AK.

You're absolutely right, CoxMustangFan. Losing Coach Klemm would have a far greater impact on the athletic program.

Sad, but true.
Maybe he thinks they fall under the leadership of the marketing department.

I would be a less expensive employee than Orsini, but I'll throw out this innovative marketing strategy for me (call it my donation toward tickets): HAVE A MARKETING DEPARTMENT.

"While current athletics director Steve Orsini of SMU has been mentioned prominently in some reports, it is believed that there is a bigger name on UT’s list. And key members of UT’s search committee have expressed optimism that an agreement with this person will be struck in the next couple of weeks."

LSU AD was approached and declined the overture. He did not seek the position.

Article says Orsini refutes the Tenn rumors, but the quote doesn't sound like it.

If someone refutes something, probably means the opposite.

Agreed. Those within the administration have told me that they "hope" it is a non-issue. It wasn't very convincing.

The impression I get is that Orsini may be the safety choice. Tenn will look to hire a big name, but if they strike out with the big names Orsini may be the guy.

While I support Orsini, I would be optimistic about a new AD bringing in his own people and building on what Orsini has started.

The headline: SMU AD Orsini refutes Tennessee rumors

is most definitely NOT supported at all in the story itself.

"Earlier in the day, Orsini released this statement: “Being mentioned as a candidate for open positions is flattering because it recognizes the success we have had at SMU. I’m … excited about our bright future here.”

Did he refute - or is that just Kate's opinion after seeing the statement that was released which most certainly DID NOT refute?

Poor, poor journalism....

North Carolina's AD also stepped down.

The Tennessee search has gone silent. However, my Tennessee buddy sent me a note and said it seems that Orsini is not a real candidate at this point.

It could, as someone mentioned earlier, that he might be the safe choice if other big names don't move.

I wonder if June and Orsini might go to North Carolina as a package deal? Sure are some nice golf courses in NC.

Hmm. I'm sure he'll go after that if he doesn't get the Tenn job. I don't think June plays much golf anymore but the weather is better.
