According to Wheeler SMU was but the coach stopped calling on him. These are Wheeler's own words. Again, my point is that I hope we are not just going a after players that are not hard to get.

I hear you. But Wheeler also kept telling other sites that he was interested in a couple of other schools -- I think Arkansas and Baylor were two -- and "liked them" but never made the effort to get on any of those school's campus.

Take that for what it's worth. I just never really considered him a real possibility. Just like those Ohio twins. I read on ponypride a couple of weeks ago they were suppose to come to Texas last week, never showed up and wound up committing to Pitt.

I heard that the coach that was recruiting him did not have a high opinion of him. At any rate, what about my last statement regarding going after players just because they are not that hard to get?

It's recruiting. It's not a science. May not be the answer you're looking for but there are no absolutes about this stuff.

Since our staff is a leading indicator in the talent of a recruit, you watch: His offers will increase substantially. This is a kid, by the way, that A&M has taken a good, long look at. He's not a reach.

Arguing aside, I truly hear what the 3 amigos are arguing. It does make sense. I am in agreement with them that Texas needs to be a base.

But again, the Texas situation will improve once SMU can plant its flag in the ground with that big season including that big win over A&M or TCU or winning CUSA. The program still has a stereotype to overcome.

That's my perspective.

DCs Texas Football calls RB Coleman explosive with 9 ypc. and 4.5 Speed which is a lot faster than what Rivals says.

And Zack Line was recruited as a linebacker. Makes sense to me?

Interesting point. We will see if the offers increase substantially. Only time will tell.

You don't like the decision to move Zach to running back?

No. I was just making the point that Zach was recruited as a linebacker and has become an incredible running back. So, what is the problem with recruiting a running back to play linebacker? It worked in reverse.

Musta been something we said...
This is the strangest story of the year. A kid shows up for a tour that is not on any of our (known) recruiting lists, not rated by any recruiting service, doesn't have the reported speed or size to qualify as a linebacker prospect, that no one that follows the program has ever heard of, gets an offer on the spot, and two days later de-commits. Makes me wonder what the coach said and the recruit heard--or have we all been had?

I haven't read Rivals yet but with this staff-there always seems to be the possibility of a Coach acting on his own.
