All right, I'll take a guess. Admittedly, I know nothing about this kid, but examining the evidence at hand.

1. As a freshman and sophomore, Cramer played QB. On many HS teams, the QB is the best athlete on the team. As we know, oftentimes, those "best athletes" get moved to their more natural position when they go to college.

2. Reading between the lines, in upper school, the coaches normally would have moved him to tight end (which usually means big, athletic and can run), but since they don't employ a TE in their offense, they moved him to DL.

3. After part of a season playing defense for the first time in his life, he gets bumped up from JV for the playoff and by the end of the season, he has supplanted the incumbent starter at a very successful 5A program.

4. The Austin American Statesman names Cramer to the preseason All-CenTex team.

My guess is that this kid has a bunch of athletic ability, but maybe just got shuffled around due to the needs of his team. Or maybe he just grew a bunch. He's 6'5, but still looks pretty lean for an interior D lineman.
