Geez...I sure hope our guys can scrape themselves off the pavement and come back after this and still show something positive in WAC play...These first 3 have been demoralizing...If Copeland was responsible for that scheduling, he should be fired for that reason alone!

Arguably, the opening schedule was largely responsibility for the morale that prevailed over the entire season last year, which equated to 0 for 12. Let's hope that the losing mentality is not already ingrained for this year, too.

I KNOW we have the ability to beat SJSU; it'll be up to the coaches and the players to convince themselves of this.

I feel your pain, BRStang...on both fronts today. Next week my wife & stepson will put our Tiger season tickets to use...hopefully a better result there & a better result at Ford. A long, long time since there wasn't at least one positive outcome.

We have got to start scoring some points. Our offense is not even scoring 7 points per game but the defense is giving up over 40 points per game.

everyone wants to blame the scheduling - if u want to pass the 'blame' game, u might as well point at the administration for creating this mess in the first place -

the only problem is - is that they don't want to take responsibility & the socialist faculty senate has an ^%$^^% org%$## everytime we lose another game!!!!!!

'scheduling' is merely an EXCUSE!

if we wanted perfect scheduling we would have been playing div I, II & III competition since '89 and into the next 30 yrs from now & it wouldn't change a %^%# thing!!!

'sheduling' is NOT the blame so let's move on to the real problem - the administration!

Sorry, but I do think the schedule last year played a role in our dismal season. And I do think it could have an effect this year, if someone doesn't realize it and try to convince the players that they really do have what it takes...maybe the trouncing by Tech of TCU today will help out.

I am not, however, saying the schedule last year was the ONLY reason we lost every game. I'm just saying it played a part. I think there is plenty of blame to go around for last year's debacle...the age/experience of players, the poor coaching calls and preparedness, the plain vanilla offense, the schedule, the fan support, the recruiting limitations, etc...

All that the Tech/TCU game shows is how far we have to go.....SMU only scores 13 against Tech, who gave up 35 to TCU today. SMU can't score any against TCU when they had already given up over 40 to Northwestern and then give up 70 to TCU. Our offense is going to have to start scoring more than 6-7 points per game - to beat anybody.

theres not much to say, but demoralizing probably fits. Its not just insult, its injury. These injuries arent a fluke, its too big of a physical difference. Its not fair to anybody. Tulsa found a way to get enough size and depth to play Okie State respectably at 38-21. SMU just doesnt seem willing or able to the same.

I agree that our offense has been horrid under Bennett, but I think the defense showed enough resolve against Tech 2 weeks ago to prove that we can compete...

For the life of me, I can't understand why the offense runs the plays it does half the time. We need to get a passing game. Hopefully, now that we're playing teams our own size, we'll be able to develop the passing game more. God help us if we continue (like we did last year) to run on every play...

Yes, if that were actually the case. Actually, we ran 36 times and passed 33 times. Pretty balanced. But if you look at the box score, two things jump out:

Turnovers: SMU 5, OSU 0

Punt coverage: Darrent Williams 5 for 161 yards (32.2 avg).

Hard to stop a team like Okie St. when they're starting every drive from our 38.

Just a suggestion: bring in Ryan Wolcott (Doak Walker's grandson)...he was highly recruited by Big 12 schools and SMU persuaded him to come to The Hilltop. He's just sitting on the sidelines. What gives?

Or you can look at it and say Tech put up 70 on the Frogs, and only 24 on us -- so our defense is a lot better than TCU's, right?
Making comparisons between different matchups is a case of apples and oranges. You can look at them any number of ways. And since you seem to enjoy finding the worst side of anything, you must enjoy the way you chose to look at it.

Ryan Wolcott was committed to accept a scholarship offer from Texas Tech when he received an offer from SMU and changed his mind.

As for the 2-deep at PK: Wolcott has tremendous mechanics - he's able to repeat the exact same swing just about every time, like you want to do with a golf club. But his leg isn't as strong as McMurtray's, and he doesn't get the ball up as fast. And it doesn't matter how the backups look -- McMurtray is the man until he graduates.

Hey, I'm about as optimistic as anybody on this board, but tonights game didn't suprise me. Disappointed yes, but not surprised. We are playing so many freshmen and sophmores, its hard to imagine. It is no fun, but between injuries and just the youth in general, it is going to be a long year. Like I said before, we are fielding a junior varsity team to play everyone else's varsity team. As they grow in experience, we will win some games and hopefully next week will be the first. I'm not going to hold my breath, but I will be there to cheer the team on. In my heart, hope springs eternal for SMU!!!!
