A new SMU cap

Last weekend I'm in the grocery store in New Jersey wearing my 'All Grit no Quit' T-Shirt and an employee in the store starts talking to me about June Jones and how he turned the SMU program around.
Clearly I was stunned, but wanted to share that with ponyfans participants.

Yeah, if we wear our Mustang shirts and or caps, that is a form of "marketing" and

I almost always get a positive response from people about my Mustang shirts.

Walked by a gentleman wearing an SMU hat at our local mall. I asked him if he was a fan and he said he had a friend who just kept sending him SMU hats and he liked them so he wore them. No tie to the school, just liked the hats.

I'm sure people aren't embarrassed to wear their stuff around from a sports perspective. When we were 1-11 or 0-12, didn't see ANYONE wearing anything.

Reminds me of Mavs gear, and to a lesser extent Longhorns gear, back in the 90s. People go for a winner...always have, always will. There are only a few exceptions, really (Cowboys, Yankees, Lakers, etc.).

LTF in mansfield has 3 or 4 of us with gear on. Saw a guy walking down the st last year with a cap here in my neighborhood. Turned out his kids in the band. Yes I stopped him. SELL SELL WIN WIN.

IMO, one of the best things SMU can do is partner with a sponsor (such as Bank of Texas) and give out free SMU shirts. It's really hard to support the local team when SMU shirts are so expensive for the average Joe. On any given weekend I'll see a TON of people walking around wearing the free Rangers shirts that they give away at games. If you want to differentiate yourself go buy one of the $60 shirts in the bookstore, but give others a chance to get on board.

That is a great way to do it.I travel to Baton Rouge once a year to watch the tigers play and always end up with free shirts you cant walk out of death valley with out some thing for free representing LSU

I remember when we gave out all those "Horse Power" bumper stickers a few years ago, those

things were on everything.

CoxMustangFan: The CVS in the very same strip center as the bookstore has a selection of more affordable SMU T-shirts, caps and other SMU gear.

And in recent years, the Albertson's on Mockingbird has carried some SMU T-shirts mixed in with all the Cowboys stuff in its "fan shop."

Not free, but not an-arm-and-a-leg, either.
