do you think UT would ever go independent before it assured itself a Notre Dame-type arrangement with the BCS?

i think that was some of the motivation to form the Bevo Network.

The question is if UT goes independent for football, what conference do the other sports join? Basketball and baseball will need a conference home.

Who would want UT in their conference without the shared revenue from football? Everyone looks at UT as the king but they need us more than we need them. Who would they play if nobody would schedule them? Maybe a gigantic intramural program they could show on their Bevo network? What would that do to their revenues?

Teams will play them if they go independent, for the exposure and the $$$.

Don't think Texas doesn't still hold all of the cards here. They never will be and never have been in a position where they're going to be threatened by A&M or OU, I don't think. If those other schools are actually serious about the SEC and Texas doesn't want to be independent, they could start flirting with the SEC as well before any moves are actually made and F everything up.

Texas will do what benefits Texas, solely. Conference loyalty is irrelevant. Rivalry opponents are irrelevant. Revenue generation will be the final deciding factor.
