Re: New Commit - Saturday
I didn't mean to imply that SMU didn't do what the other schools do. I'm sure they probably do some of it. Facebook also lets the coach know a little about a person other than football. A smart player will be very careful with his Facebook.
I guess I may need one, you think?

Its ok to be critical or ask questions...

Re: New Commit - Saturday
I think the Coaches only get initiated contact per week per recruit be it text, phone call, or facebook. But the recruit may contact the coach as much as he wants.

Thats correct...facebook is a real grey area, and I think we do that pretty well...
Re: New Commit - Saturday
I think at this time until Sept. 1st the coaches and or recruiters can't contact the kids. The rules are such that it takes a real scholar to read and understand them.

When you kept saying "We don't" above I thought you were talking about facebook, but now you say that SMU does that pretty well in your opinion so I am confused. What is it you are saying SMU does not do?

Well, that's where I was going with my line of questioning earlier with you. So there was a misunderstanding as what I was asking and what you were answering. I think we were all aware of the calendar and the contact periods and the type of contacts coaches can have.
So now, I have no idea as to what you are referring to in "we don't do that" category".

Here's an earlier quote that Nick was responding to:
"they give each of their staff certain towns, regions, and states to recruit. It seems the majority of them have at least 6-9 guys recruiting. In the camps they divided the potential recruits with the coach{scout] from their region. They also visited with their potential position coach. Don't know how the Ponies do it. The great recruiting schools send out personal letters and visit with them on Facebook when legal to do it. They know a personal contact is much better than just flooding them with printed matter."
I believe it to be that we do use social media such as Facebook to our advantage, and are on top of it, but when it comes to executing a coherent, balanced, thought out recruiting plan such as the one above, we don't do it.

OK, but if Nick is saying "we don't do it" and it is in reference to what you cited, he also said in that section that "don't know how the Ponies do it.'' And then he refers to great recruiting schools sending out personal letters, etc.
Name me a school from Texas to UNT that doesn't do this, especially for the kids those programs really want. I really find that hard to believe that SMU is not involved in this practice. And if someone's telling him that, then somebody inside has their own agenda they want to filter out -- and that's equally destructive for the program. That's my opinion. Whoever is telling Nick this stuff needs to shut their damn mouth.
For me, the recruiting game comes down to the relationships the coaches develop with the kids that will be followed up by the letters, calls, etc.
Klemm appears to be successful because he has an engaging personality, he can sell where he's been from and can relate to the kids. Reinbold is cut from the engaging personality cloth. Kids respond to that. June has that but head coaches only close (if that's really how involved he wants to be).
Since there are complaints about the Wes Suans of the world, maybe it's that they don't have the same engaging style Klemm does so it's harder for them to make the connection. And we've heard how several on this staff don't want to recruit. We've talked about that endlessly. And that's probably where Texas 2012 efforts fell apart -- that and Texas kids aren't taking us seriously yet because we still have to prove something.
How is that going to change? Is June going to overhaul his staff because some aren't recruiting passionately? I don't think so. I'm sure that alleged butt chewing meeting had some immediate results but as time has gone on, it's withered and a return to the status quo will continue. A staff will only change if there is a bad season. If this continues will Klemm leave? Maybe but we have to keep in mind we're a stepping stone place not a destination. So then you're stuck with the idea that June has to find quality replacements who have a passion for both player development and recruiting.

Nick, you're wasting your time being a cyber bully.
Just quit the whining.
I'm sorry you didn't agree with what I wrote. But just because you appear to connected doesn't mean that what you're spreading is doing the program a whole lot of good.
