Re: Another Longhorn arrested
get outa here! there is no way you'd be satisfied w/ that long term...we're SMU, we settle for mediocrity because we don't have the balls to deal w/ some trouble? get serious. "There ain't nothing you can't solve with one more beer"
Re: Another Longhorn arrested
RnB11, Let me do a better job of clarifying my point. I am not willing to settle for mediocrity, I think we as fans have had enough of that over the last 20+ years. I want to see SMU compete and beat the A&M's and TCU's of the world every year. I want teams to be concerned, nervous or whatever the correct term is, when they see SMU on their schedule. But if it means SMU has to recruit athletes that are going to show up on a police blotter evey year I for one do not think the negative fallout is worth it. I believe SMU will always be under the microscope of the NCAA clowns. SMU can obtain top 15 even top 10 status with out recruiting the thug athletes, maybe I am to optimistic or blind(happens in old age), but I do believe it can be done. I also understand you are going to have a bad apple every now and then, even if you only recruit the kids who are good students and come from strong families. That kind of thing is going to happen when a kid is on his own for the first time in life and with the internet and all of the other social mediums, everything is magnified. Having said that, if Duke can do it in basketball and Stanford can do it in all of thier sports why can't SMU? I have been following SMU since the early 70's when my dad would take me to the Cotton Bowl to watch them play. I attended SMU during the Pony Express days and I stuck with them over the last 20 years. Over that time I have watch them go on probation during the 70's and 80's and then have the program shut down. The 90's and early 2000's need no comment. I am tired of the "winning at all cost" attitude. Maybe this has alot do with my age because I supported the "win at any cost" attitude duirng my younger years but not anymore. Please do not think I am happy with mediocrity, I am not. I want SMU to be a top program and I want to see Ford Stadium sold out with SMU fans every home game. Like I said I believe it can be done the right way.. Thanks for hearing me out. Beat A&M!!!! GO MUSTANGS!
Re: Another Longhorn arrestedforget about limiting SMU's recruiting scope to the kids with good grades and scores-because that's ridiculously naive and long gone around here-but you are correct SMU will always be under a microscope and needs to win if at all with some integrity. We can win big without taking the kids who score in the 600s on SATs and have behavior issues. Despite what some think that's exactly the same profile UT recruits from EXCEPT they don't give non-qualifiers a second chance through JUCOs.

Re: Another Longhorn arrested
Oh I agree with you, Stallion. The kids with good grades and good families was just part of the point I was trying to make. GO MUSTANGS!
