One interesting take-away is the comment on 14 schools as the magic number. I feel Missouri is be best alternative (market wise and doesn't have to bring a state partner, such as OK, since the resistance to another GA, SC or FL school is presumed. In the end, Big Ten takes MO and adds one from following Pitt/Rutgers/Syracuse and SEC takes A&M and persuades FL to allow FSU in. Florida is a big state and can better absorb a second school without hurting U. of FL.

So if 14 is a reason number of conference schools, we will see Big Ten and SEC at that membership level, while PAC12, ACC, Big XII and Big East make their own decisions at 12 or 14.

The one area where I would question is when they say if they do not have a 14th team in place they will vote no on A&M. What I have heard is if they did not have a 14th team in place they just would not officially announce A&M until it was. I would imagine it will be possible to get another acceptable team fairly quickly. If all the eastern schools are blackballed, Missouri I would bet would go in a second. And Auburn has been rumored to move to the East Division since expansion discussions began a few years ago.

the "magic number" of 14 teams is interesting. I like that for scheduling purposes, as each school will play 6 divisional games with 3 home, 3 road games. They might even count games against the other division as "non-conference" games which is a more equitable way of determining division champs. The SEC has some long standing "cross over" rivalries that they probably will want to protect (Alabama/Tennessee and Auburn/Georgia immediately come to mind)

Not sure that SC would object to having Clemson in the SEC and not sure about Florida vs FSU, either. Those schools already play each other and have great rivalries. As conference mates, it just adds value and provides more non-conference scheduling flexibility.

Having said that, Va Tech opens a new recruiting territory and media market and would appear to be a good fit as a 14th member. ACC would have plenty of backfill options

Bottom line is that the Aggie$ should jump on this if an invite is extended

Missou is a geographic mis-fit.

What does the SEC do with their divisions? break up Alabama and Auburn? Move the Alabama duo east and Tennessee west? Tennesse has long standing rivalries with Bama, Kentucky and even vandy.

Missou just doesn't fit...but does fit in Big 10

As I mentioned above, Auburn to the East has long been discussed and seems to be ok with the ones who care. The one glaring problem with it however is, as one sports analyst was saying, imagine the big Thanksgiving Day game (Iron Bowl?) between Alabama and Auburn, which would still be played, followed the next weekend with the SEC Championship game featuring Alabama and Auburn.

exactly; ACC worried about this with Miami/FSU and Big 10 has Mich/OSU issue. Not ideal
