SMU MENS SOCCER TEAM #5 IN NATION----not football, sorry--

Postby ponyscott » Sun Aug 14, 2011 9:03 pm

Yes I do KNOW its not football oriented, but worldwide it is still known as football------AND MAYBE IT"S OLD NEWS TO SOME, but many here don't know we have a Pre-Season TOP 5 NATIONALLY RANKED SMU SPORTS TEAM!!!!! SMU Mens Soccer Team #5:

The first preseason ranking is out and the SMU Men's Soccer team is ranked 5th in the country. Here's the link to the article. But is consistent with the other rankings and the boys have a really tough schedule

Heck, its been in the 'Other Sports' section for a long time...I just noticed from a conversation or two with SMU exs...that this isn't widely known.

Yes, needs to be on football -- at least for a while -- to get the word out.

Nice to be highly ranked pre-season but the end of the season rankings are what is really important. Let's see if they can continue to keep that ranking throughout the season.

Geez...Redpony what is your issue with SMU Soccer? So you now post the same baseless, tired comments on here?

PS- I think you misinterpret my comments. I am pleased that the team has a top 5 ranking. The intention of my comments was that I hope they are good enough to keep it all season. I would say the same if our football team was ranked no. 5. To maintain a top ranking you need to play a tough schedule and win. What the hell is wrong with that?
If you care to continue this discussion then it is more appropriate to move it to the other sports section.

No worries redpony, you just seem to only give backhanded comment about Mens Soccer...don't understand why. They are on the right track, and yes of course at the end of the season is always much better. We just wish the football team was up there at #5!
You coming up for the Football kick off this week?

PS- nope. I wish I could be there. I will be making a 500 mile trip to Lima so I can watch it at my favorite sports bar. I plan on coming to Dallas in Oct/Nov. and will be at a couple of games. Also hope to make some new acquaintances at the 'cigar meet' if they have one while I am there. Planning on bringing a few cubanos if I don't get caught. :)
Here, Cuban Monte Cristos are about $90 a box and Cohibas about the same.

Are you going to do football or soccer or both? Let us know and we will make sure we put together a cigar meet.

SMU soccer is hopefully back on track. It is nice to be back in the top 5 - now we just need to get over the hump in the final four.

T-21, I will definitely be going to at least one FB game. I would like to hit some soccer matches but it will depend on the schedule. Last year I had hoped to go to both a men's match and a women's match but there was only one home soccer game during my trip and I already had plans with family. I also always attend at least one of the coaches lunches.
Look forward to a 'gar session with some 'true' pony fans.

My experience with Cubano's is that USA Customs will let you bring in 4-5 gars as long as you declare them. They don't like it if you get greedy or don't declare them at all.
Which game are you going to Lima to watch?....TAMU I would guess....hope you make it a positive event when we beat them!

PS- thanks for the info. I have a small 'travelling' humidor that holds 6 'gars so I wouldn't be bringing in any large amount. Guess I will declare them so I can avoid that problem.

Yes, I will be watching us pound the aggies (hopefully). The sports bar in Lima always has a lot of gringos watching the games. There are some buddies from the embassay that are SMU fans (not alums) so I always have some 'backup' with me.
