I live among the orange here in Austin, and they seem to care not one whit what A&M does.
As long as Texas can keep the rest of the group together, I would agree they might prefer a 9 member group going forward, but with no championship game, they would need to schedule a couple of strong non-conference games. Playing either A$M or Arkansas every year would satisfy part of that equation, but they would probably cultivate relationships with PAC 10 schools. just a hunch.
Problem keeping the remaining 9 members comes back to revenue sharing and "appreciating" your conference mates
