Back from Stillwater!Okie St. had the most physical team we have faced to date.
Their 465 to 310 total yardage doesn't warrant a 59-7 score, but the 5 -0 turnovers defecit does. The offense made progress against the best defense we have faced thus far. Devin Lowery has let the team down a second game in a row. It looked like a number of our players had that (deer in the headlights look early in the game) Our punt coverage was abysmal. We had a couple of people step up, like Kennedy and J Cleveland. After three games we have lost 11 turnovers to NONE! Besides players family members, we might have had 25 to 30 fans in attendance. That statistic was probably the saddest of all, with Stillwater being in driving distance on a beautiful Saturday!
Also back from StillwaterI think the ponyfans do need to try to make some of these trips even when victory is unlikely. The players need our support. They keep fighting to make ponyfans proud. It was sad to see the look on their faces with only a few SMU fans out there cheering them on.

giacfsp, yes they did try to throw to Lowery. On the first pass, the ball bounced off his hands straight up in the air, and then intercepted.
Foy Munlin had another critical fumble early in the game. Hopefully he shows what kind of a player he is supposed to be this weekend. So far against better competition, he really has not shown very much. Certainly this is partially due to the OL, but for the last two years, every team knew we were going to run but yet KK seemed to be able to gain some yards.
Let's not throw Foy under the bus just yet. Last year KK ran behind a line with a senior center in Steve Reindl, a senior tackle in Sterling Harris and a junior guard in Townsend Hargis. I'd be interested to see what Munlin could do behind a veteran line.
And I'm going to enjoy what he can do behind this line, which I believe will get a lot better this season.
Re: Also back from Stillwater
Was the look on the SMU fans' faces sad when the team went down by 40? Sorry, but I don't fault anyone for avoiding the trek to Stillwater.
I agree and starting with the students would be a great idea. Alums, fans and students are part of the potential mix but the present students have no tradition of support or winning. Winning can solve it to a degree but support should not be conditional, especially by the present student body.
Any suggestions. Phil toured the Fraternity Houses soon after his arrival. Our social scene wins most every time against attending a game. ![]() Pony Up
Re:
I was there, brought 2 with me.
Which players exactly have played to their potential. There have been no superlatives. I'm not questioning their efforts just tangible results. Does a certain All-WAC player or any DL have any sacks? Is the opposing QB in fear of our relentless pass rush? Have we penetrated the OLM for significant tackles for loss. Have we had a pass rush. Have our LBs caused any fumbles or stopped the running game. Does our secondary have a single INT.-who is our shutdown corner? How are our CBs doing against the run? Has the OLM opened up gaping holes for Foy. They haven't allowed too many sacks but Phillips has not had much time to throw. Where is Henderson and Massey. The great Bobby Chase is averaging how many catches a game after 3 starts. Have our WRs taken it to the house. Have we had a consistent WR threat week in and week out. I guess Kennedy and the FG kicking have exceeded expectations but that's about it. There is plenty of blame too go around. SMU needs to improve at all 22 positions in otder to have a shot at winning again.
Re:
Great post! There have not really been any positives things on the field so far this year. Every aspect of the game still needs serious improvement if SMU is to win a game.
I would submit that punt returns have been quite good and KORs have been OK.
Regarding the O and D, no they have not produced yet and the O has thrown in 11 turns. Here is hoping we see a better team on Saturday. Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad

Here is hoping we see a better team on Saturday.[/quote I don't put much stock in our punt returns - and please don't base them off of the one "semi-return-called for a fair catch" debacle at TCU. Yes, Blake might have gone all the way, but the play did not happen accoring to the refs. The bottom line is that there is not one aspect of this team that does not need to seriously improve.
