For even greater perspective, has anyone heard Rice's name as potential replacement?

Of course not. That would have been us if this was happening 5 years ago. At least now we are in the conversation.

Also of note, JJ tweeted the article today. I imagine it is just for recruiting purposes (that is assuming JJ knows anything about the current state of our recruiting). Although, its seems that JJ would have to have at least some realistic optimism to tweet that story. If there was no hope/truth to that article, it would be ridiculous for JJ to post it on his Twitter.

I am probably overly optimistic but rational nonetheless. I understand a lot of shoes need to fall into place, but I feel that, if they do, we have a real chance at making this happen soon.

SMU has a lot going for it right now...both academically and in our athletics.

Think of all of the money we have already put into place or already used to make improvements in both areas...

1) Moody's renovation
2) new sophomore housing quad
3) Education building
4) Engineering Quad
5) Presidential Library

Realignment could not have come at a better time for this university...glad we are making the necessary phone calls and campus improvements to give us a legitimate chance.

Couldn't agree with you more S...M...U

What you sell at SMU is potential and the momentum around the program and the university as a whole. We have made quantum leaps in the last 3-4 years on the field and academically the SMU of 2011 is a world away from the SMU of even 2000. We are a sleeping giant. Find someone to buy that and we are golden.
Back off Warchild seriously.

I think first the Big 12 would take BYU as they will not have disagreements over the LNW and Texas will not object to their BYU Network. Texas needs to bring in teams that will not object to their network . Probably after BYU, Air Force makes sense as a Big 12 north team in the region. However after that, since TCU is not interested right now in a potential Big 12 membership, I do think SMU makes more sense to the Big 12 than Houston does. The commuter school is a stepping stone for head coaches and has proven to have poor attendance even with their great teams in the 70s and 80s in the old SWC days. SMU had a lot better attendance with our great teams of the early 1980s.
