Camp was only a few days old when Dave Campo pulled his cornerbacks off to the side.

Alan Ball and Bryan McCann form the next cluster.

"You two guys right here, you’re veteran guys,” the secondary coach barked. “You have to have a role on this football team. You’re competing not only with the starters for time, but you’re competing with these guys over here.”

McCann: He understands the game and can make plays. Remember that 101-yard interception return for a touchdown in the win over the New York Giants last season? He is the Cowboys’ best nickel corner after Scandrick, and he returns kicks. That gives him an edge over the competition.

“He’s a smart guy,” Campo says. “He can play outside and inside. I think he’s doing well and he gives us a nickel. I think he can play inside effectively.”
