Couldn't be true-I got two clueless dudes over there on PonyPride telling me it will be 8 X 16 teams in Division 1A and everybody is going to get a contestant ribbon for National Championship.

I'm guessing you mean Szymon C. and Ryan Smith and not the rest of us

There would still be lower conferences, but they would be "buddied" up with one of the main 4 conferences. Each year the winner of the lower conference would swap places with the last place team in the big 4 conference it is associated with. It would keep the whole year competitive, and would be awesome to give everyone a fighting chance.
don't be silly. of course not! that would make too much sense.

We are new to the SMU family this year. I attended the luncheon today and just wanted to say that SMU is doing it right. June is a class coach and a better man. Good things heading towards the hill! The players and alum were great. Sat with some freshman and they were very courteous and ready to converse. All in all a great time. I would highly recommend attending Junes weekly lunches during the year if this one is any indication of those to follow. Go Ponies!

http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com ... cting.htmlThis isn't behind the paywall, so we should be fine with this recap on here. Clink the link above for more: SMU coach June Jones, who is among the faction that sees college football moving rapidly toward four, 16-team superconferences.
Jones predicted the major shift would occur within 15-24 months, kickstarted by the SEC eventually not just taking Texas A&M, but three additional schools.
For SMU and other non-BCS schools that could well be left out of the superconferences, Jones said that means it's time to be aggressive about "thinking outside of the box" about the future.
"If we sit around and we wait for that to happen [superconferences], we'll be left behind," Jones said.
SMU is getting plenty of mentions in the last 24 hours, though once again it's in regards to the NCAA-mandated Death Penalty of the 1980's. The recent allegations against Miami's athletic program have many pondering if the U deserves similar punishment. Jones said there will continue to be issues with boosters/agents in college sports until laws change nationally. He said those who interfere with amateur athletes should be subject to felony charges. Texas recently implemented some of the strictest laws in the nation regarding agents and their "runners."
And a fun prediction from RGT: SMU president R. Gerald Turner offered a nice quip when mentioning that SMU would like to surprise Texas A&M in the season-opener Sept. 4 in College Station. Regarding all the buzz surrounding the Aggies' potential move to the SEC, Turner said they might get caught "looking East, when they should've been looking North."

How exactly can SMU help itself by thinking outside the box. What the hell does that even mean?
Back off Warchild seriously.

Well, at least we know in advance we have the potential to be screwed and it isn't June and SO running to Turner's office the night before massive realignment yelling the sky is falling and having the President say "I don't believe it, I haven't been informed!"

Thinking outside the box like writing big checks to get in......aligning with another school to get invited together, etc. We can't just expect an invite because of who we are.

i completely disagree with this position, that is an overly harsh punishment for the crime. the only people who rationalize that excessive punishment are generally the NCAA who can't do anything about the sand they are sinking in and the only avenue they can advocate for his obscenely harsh penalties for paying players no dice
