I hear he might take a full year off to re-group. Can anyone confirm?

He is going to take a year off why we continue to pay him full salary. Why Copeland extended his contract 2 years ago was beyond us even then. Ohhh I forgot we were worried that a bigger school might snatch away our prized coach. There was a huge market at the time for coaches with losing seasons.

I think he must have been friends with some people down at Ole Miss. They agreed to help him keep his job and get a raise by starting completely false rumors that they (Ole Miss) were interested in him. A complete hoax I bet. It worked on us. Ole Miss would have looked ridiculous in hiring a coach coming off a losing season in the WAC. Cavan snookered us on this one. I wish we would have caught the way he works a little sooner.

I always heard it was Georgia who expressed interest in Caven. Maybe in part because he was a star QB there. His head coach at the he played is still the Athletic Director there (Vince Dooley). He also had Dooley's son on his staff for a few years. I belive he is now at LSU. In the grand scheme of things SMU was supposed to be his spring board to getting an SEC job. For his sake I hope he can rebound and possibly have better luck turning around a program and getting that dream SEC job. I would enjoy watching any former SMU coach/athlete/student have success. Maybe there is more to then we will ever know. It will be interesting to see what he does from here.

Agreed. I don't like him very much, but I do wish him success.
