Re: Miami Heat-- the News Gets WorseDo we have legal standing to sue if the NCAA does not administer the Death Penalty? Rather than ask for money can we demand to be included in the BCS?
Re: Miami Heat-- the News Gets Worseshiiiiiiiiiit

Re: Miami Heat-- the News Gets Worse
no. I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Re: Miami Heat-- the News Gets WorseWhat he said. SMU has not suffered a direct injury resulting from the NCAA failing to give another school the Death Penalty.
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Miami Heat-- the News Gets WorseThen they have a moral obligation to compensate.
Re: Miami Heat-- the News Gets WorseThat and 10 cents won't even get you a cup of coffee anymore.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Re: Miami Heat-- the News Gets WorseI hear you. But 300 million will get you women's volleyball.
Re: Miami Heat-- the News Gets Worsepretty naive on lots of peoples part to think this one booster was the sole source of illegal benefits to UM players.
Plays into the lone wolf / runaway train theory people projected onto SMU. What would really hurt this program would be a thorough investigation into UM athletics which found other boosters providing pay-offs as well. THAT could lead to a potential DP situation, although I doubt it. Now that the crap is hitting the fan, chances of more dirt coming out is much higher.
Re: Miami Heat-- the News Gets WorseI believe the standard for the DP is at least two major violations in five years. Do they have that? There was the 2003 baseball violation and this one, right?
If egrigiousness (if that's a word) were the standard, they ought to get seven DPs. Even with, as you point out, a lone wolf.
Re: Miami Heat-- the News Gets WorseThe more I think about it, the fact that the AD was an NCAA compliance officer at the time all this happened should be enough to get consideration for the death penalty. That is on some level as egregious as what Clements did with SMU. Coupled with the fact that the President apparently had close ties with this crook, and maybe you get there. But it still won't happen.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Re: Miami Heat-- the News Gets WorseThey will "reform" NCAA rules and Miami will get by with something stronger than a slap on the wrist but not nearly rising to the level of a one year ban on football.
The lesson: money corrupts.

Know this about Nevin Shapiro: He rained down millions on Miami players during an eight-year spread, yet he didn’t come close to the levels of gifts and graft that former Fiesta Bowl CEO John Junker lavished on athletic directors, presidents and conference commissioners.
Re: Miami Heat-- the News Gets WorseMark Emmert of the NCAA, to USA Today: "not opposed to using the death penalty"

Re: Miami Heat-- the News Gets WorseOTP, I saw that too. There lies part of the real problems. Go Ponies!
Re: Miami Heat-- the News Gets WorseWell I listened to today's radio show--
The host admitted he was worn out from yesterday's show. He had a number of ex-Miami celebrities. There was general consensus of the following: There were more boosters. They all like the president, but thought she made a very poor speech yesterday. The thought the players, coaches, AD and president should be made to pay. No death penalty, but the penalty would be worse than USC's--loss of 10-15 scholarships per year for 3 years and no bowls or television for 3 years. Very critical of strip clubs, protitutes, cash, yachts, but then, and I am not making this up, the sponsor came on "Welcome to the New Miami Gentlemen's Club, where celebrities and entertainers are always welcome"! Only in MIami!
