SMU Athletics Announces Ford Stadium Improvements
Locker Room & Team Meeting Rooms Renovated

Aug. 18, 2011

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU Athletics today announced nearly $3 million in Ford Stadium improvements, including upgrades to the football locker room and team meeting rooms as well as a new playing surface.

"We are committed to competing at the highest level," said SMU Director of Athletics Steve Orsini. "Part of that commitment includes having top-notch facilities. With its academics, media market, alumni loyalty, and overall commitment to athletics, we know SMU is a great place for our student-athletes, as well as prospective student-athletes, and improvements like this only reinforce that."

The renovations include a new team meeting room with stadium-style seating as well as renovated positional meeting rooms. Changes to the locker room included the creation of a new team lounge, as well as new lockers, updated graphics and audio/visual equipment.

Walter Umphrey, a former SMU student and Beaumont attorney, donated $1 million to the efforts in honor of his former Mustang teammate Garry Weber. SMU alumnus and Austin businessman John Gorman and an anonymous Houston-based donor each gifted $500,000 for the project, and the remaining balance of the $2.7 million was from various donors.

SMU Athletics has set annual fundraising records for three straight years and has seen an astonishing 82% spike in annual giving since Steve Orsini's arrival as Director of Athletics in 2006, despite a challenging economic environment. For fiscal year 2011, which ended May 31, SMU Athletics added $6.6 million in annual gifts, breaking the $6 million mark for the first time. It was only a year ago that Athletics surpassed the $5 million mark for the first time. Including capital and other gifts, over $10.5 million was given to SMU Athletics in 2011.

To donate to SMU Athletics, contact Tim Leonard, Sr. Assoc. A.D./External Affairs, at 214-768-4465.

NICE!
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Wow. Now if we add an indoor practice facility we will be on par with BCS schools.

Bless those who are sharing their hard-earned wealth with others and causes of their choosing. In this day and times, why not donate to causes that are so dear to you and/or your family instead of watching it disappear in the stock market due to things happening in other parts of the world. Now I better understand the term "PONY UP!"

Cover up the lockers, turn down the lights and that could be a nightclub w/that giant glowing pony logo hanging from the ceiling, lol.

Where are the photos of the player lounge? The lockerroom doesn't look that different besides a mustang hanging form the ceiling!

For those of you that read Deadspin... some publicity on the front page

http://deadspin.com/5832560/smus-new-lo ... strip-club

SMU’s New Locker Room Is A Strip Club
Too bad there's already a Pink Pony strip club in Atlanta, because that would be a hell of a name for this neon-lit luxury monster.

With death penalties in the news, it's nice for SMU to give us a reminder that no matter what you do wrong, it doesn't matter in the long run. You will still be able to scrape together $2.7 million for stadium renovations, two million of that from just three donors. Remember, boosters: bring the glitz to the team and not the other way around, and it's all nice and legal.

The nightclub atmosphere should work well in our L.A. recruiting 8)

Club Fondren's got nothing on Club Locker.

Did the Designer make the Mustang out of Lite Brites? I'm pretty sure my older sister played with that when we were kids. Designer should be fired. This looks terrible!
