Parents Weekend/ Game Time

Postby Mike Damone » Wed Sep 22, 2004 12:29 pm

Or Family Weekend...whatever the PC term is these days.

The more and more I think about this game and the game time it pisses me off. Who scheduled this? How many of you went to SMU in the last 15 years and know what your averagfe SMU student is like? I'd being willing to bet money that there is a decrease in attendance due to Parent's Weekend as opposed to an increase. I can almost guarantee you that more students will opt to go to dinner with family and friends than attend the SMU/SJSU game. I know after eating crappy food all semester i always looked forward to my parents coming to town and getting a decent bite to eat.

I know we shouldn't cater to the every need of our student body, but we also should know what to expect from them. You can say if they would choose a free dinner with the parents over an SMU game, screw them. But why put them in that situation if you don't have to.
The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

if we don't win some games soon-there won't be a student section for these brillant Nite games in the Fall. Let me see would an SMU student prefer to go partying or watch SMU Football late into the Nite? Sorority Chicks face the prospect that their hair might fall before going out. Very stupid idea-especially if we miss a beautiful fall afternoon for football.

Or how about taking dear ol' Mom & Dad over to The Blvd. and experiencing the pre-game atmosphere? If the sororities and fraternities and other student organizations would use some common sense and set up their tailgates along Bishop Blvd. this would be a wonderful thing for the parents. And dear ol' Mom & Dad wouldn't have to spend any $$$ for dinner...or at least they could contribute to the cause with some 'donations'.

It doesn't matter what time they set the game for..someone is going to complain. The last couple of years, this time of the year was still hotter than hell and the folks in the east stands in earlier game times would look like lobsters after 30 minutes. I personally love the afternoon game times, but then half of the fans have kids playing in soccer leagues or some such sport that plays on Saturday afternoons, so I can live with an evening game if it will allow more people to attend. Why worry about the students...no matter what time the game is they usually find something else to do. The fact that an evening game isn't over until 10:00 or so should not be a problem because most students don't start partying until then anyway.
