Don't forget, he was once an assistant band director of The Mustang Band.

He tells the story that after the death penalty, SMU cleaned house in the athletic department and of course they needed someone to act as interim Athletic Director. They choose Bill for the job. He goes on to tell at the first meeting between him and the remaining staff, he commented - "This is probably the only school where the former Band Director is now the Athletic Director".
