Cyrus Gray - TAMU

Postby DesignatedT » Wed Aug 24, 2011 1:11 am

After seeing June Jones' comments about him being the best RB in the nation I got to lookin him up. Are we really going to be able to stop this guy? Watch this video, plus his whole Oline is practically returning.

When I think about our performance last year against Tech and TCU's rb's, I have hope. When I think about how we couldn't tackle ECU's rb's, Cyrus Gray and Christine Michael really worry me.

Thanks for the reminder, in case some people forgot we have a pretty good RB as well. And as I recall, our whole O-line is coming back as well. Considering almost half of Gray's tape was him beating up on Baylor (big deal!) and the end of it was against a UT team that didn't even make a bowl last year, I don't think we should be throwing in the towel just yet. Not saying he is not a great RB, but I hope our team is not as scared of him as some people on this board seem to be.

No offense, but your first post here is "the sky is falling"?

From what I recall, or linebackers and DE's know how to play a little.

Gray is a great back, and he'll get his yards and a TD or two, but he's not going to have a career day.

Refresh my memory on how serious Cyrus Gray was to considering SMU out of high school? I remember being in the conversation and perhaps being close at one point, but it was before our Rivals site and nothing came up on a ponyfans search. I rarely remember recruiting battles, but this one sticks out to me.

We have the speed LB's to match Gray. Would be great for the big boys up front to get a few big hits on him. My only concern would be his cuts, his balance is crazy good. I think SMU teams in previous years would get torched by Cyrus and give up a couple long TD runs. Not so much this year...

I seem to remember him having pretty high interest in SMU as well.

I was very impressed with Zach Line vs TCU last year. Credit a good game plan from the coaches, good blocking by the O-Line. TCU linebackers uncharachteristically had a very bad game against him last year as they were constantly falling for fakes and filling the wrong holes. In fact, SMU & Wisconsin were the only teams that ran the ball on TCU all year.

And the definition of [deleted] - an aggie that posts A&M highlights on an SMU board.

I think he SAID he was seriously considering us (and really everybody) until A&M offered (then said he wanted to go to A&M the whole time, who knows (except for Stallion probably)). I think there's some connection between him, Terrance Wilkerson and the olineman who signed with us but didn't make it here (academically?).

Tannehill became the starting QB, but his numbers also inflated because Chrstine Michael got hurt.
