Front Page ESPN...SMU expresses interest in Big 12Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Front Page ESPN...SMU expresses interest in Big 12Most likely ND will turn them down. Absolutely no reason whatsoever ND would turn the Big 10 down just to end up joining the Big 12 - the Big 10 WOULD have let them keep their NBC contract.
BYU will most likely accept. The question then is "do they go to 12?" Most likely no, but if they do there is absolutely room in Texas for 4 schools, there are NOT many decent candidates out there for those two spots; everybody outside of BYU has a weakness. Also, that 14th school in the SEC is a wild card, not just for SMU but also to, again, start the dominoes falling, i.e. school from the ACC, Big East school replaces the ACC school, and another shot to join a major conference. Plus, other conferences will monitor closely the way 14 schools in a conference plays out. This realignment stuff has a ways to go to flush itself out. Wait - We have 40,000 alumni in Dallas? Where have these people been?!
Re: Front Page ESPN...SMU expresses interest in Big 12No worries there they will be #1 by oct 1st

Front Page ESPN...SMU expresses interest in Big 12
+1
Front Page ESPN...SMU expresses interest in Big 12Now why would BYU accept after just now going Indy? ND is happy with their monopoly network. Next..
Re: Front Page ESPN...SMU expresses interest in Big 12
1) $15-22 MILLION/year they get for joining (depending on the deal they get) or MAYBE $2M/year they get off BYU's own MTV (Morman Television Network) 2) BCS bowl tie in if they go win the conference - or they can come play in FORD STADIUM WHEN THEY MIRACULOUSLY GO 12-0 AFTER BEATING TEXAS, ND, HOUSTON, FLORIDA STATE AND UTAH 3) Immediate national respect and attention by joining a major conference - or they can keep answering [deleted] "Why in THE HELL are you independent?" questions 4) Sports outside of football aren't playing flippin' University of San Diego in stupid WCC games Seriously, dude, it's not even close......
Re: Front Page ESPN...SMU expresses interest in Big 12seriously, who gives a crap about BYU
Re: Front Page ESPN...SMU expresses interest in Big 12
You asked, killer.
Re: Front Page ESPN...SMU expresses interest in Big 12
Seriously, BYU isn't close http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Brigham+Young+University,+Provo,+UT&daddr=Austin,+TX&hl=en&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=35.410182,62.402344&geocode=FRMpZgIdW1lY-SFM3A_zo7M-vw%3BFRHXzQEdK48s-ikvA8ygmbVEhjF61WnUS0abXQ&vpsrc=0&mra=ls&t=h&z=5
Front Page ESPN...SMU expresses interest in Big 12Just flew on United from Salt Lake and they put me on a prop plane
Re: Front Page ESPN...SMU expresses interest in Big 12It's in a state one state removed from the rest of the conference. That's close enough. Damn, I'm not saying they are in - I hope they stay as far away from the Big XII as possible. But they ARE a serious candidate right now.
Re: Front Page ESPN...SMU expresses interest in Big 12Really makes how we ended last year sting even more with the ongoing conference shifts. Would love to be described as a 9-5 dark horse BCS Buster instead of a 7-7 conference champion hopeful.

Re: Front Page ESPN...SMU expresses interest in Big 12
With that logic then think of all the possibilities one state over from Missou, Kansas, Iowa, Okla Hell, why not Louisville, or Cincy! Seriously, the WCC / IND think is perfect and they are going to make a whole lot more than $2m per year on that. Can you imagine women's crew trekking their equipment from UTAH to Lake Austin? Nice! Get real. They aren't even being considered. They aren't even "good enough" for the Pac10...

Re: Front Page ESPN...SMU expresses interest in Big 12The SI headline is truly funny, it says we are mulling a move to the Big 12. Not sure what to make of this, but i agree you have to toot your own horn these days. Bloggers will report it like its news. I will say this, I think we deserve a break after 23 years in the wilderness. A big win or 2 would help too. I see the TCU game as very important this year and as chance to get it done, Aggie is gonna be real tough to say the least.
