Washington Post not optimistic about Aldrick Robinson

Postby Red+BlueDude » Sun Aug 21, 2011 2:50 pm

The paper did a position-by-position breakdown of the Redskins' roster, and who likely will and won't make the roster. The writer doesn't seem to like Robinson's chances:

Wide receivers (5-6)

Looking good: Santana Moss, Jabar Gaffney, Anthony Armstrong appear to be locks.

On the bubble: Terrence Austin, Donte Stallworth, Leonard Hankerson, Niles Paul, Aldrick Robinson, Isaac Anderson, Brandon Banks, Malcolm Kelly.

Thoughts: If Banks is healthy and able to produce in the returns department, then he is set. Austin is having a good preseason, and coaches like Hankerson’s potential; he’s not helping himself with frequent drops, however. Stallworth is solid, but it’s a crowded position. Kelly’s chances don’t appear good. Paul could make the practices squad. Robinson needs to redeem himself from a shaky preseason debut.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Why Gaffney is a lock is beyond me, but most of Shanahan's move involve little or no logic. You'd have to think Hankerson is likely to make it, as a big, very productive, college WR who was drafted in the third round. Sounds like Stallworth is doing OK in camp, so Robinson might have to beat out Paul (about whom I know absolutely nothing), Austin and Banks (each of whom has experience in the return game). Kelly is a joke, and Anderson is just a camp body, I think.

So are we hoping for practice squad at this point? Hope he has a huge game next week.

Doesn't look good for him making the Redskins opening day roster. Hopefully he gets more of a chance to shine in their remaining preseason games. His best bet might be that another team likes his potential and picks him up on waivers if/when he gets cut (like the when the Cowboys picked up Justin Rogers after the Pats cut him). If not, he will be on somebody's practice squad

I'd love for them to cut Al loose and the Cowboys snag him up.
Back off Warchild seriously.

WR Aldrick Robinson (6)—He has good speed and he can change direction like few other rookie receivers. But his game lacks polish and Robinson could be the odd man out in a very crowded picture at wide receiver. Chances of making roster: Doubtful

Not a good sign that he didn't seem to see the field. That's usually a sign that a player is on the cut list and they don't want him to get hurt so that they have to pay him. Gaffney also played well which doesn't help A.R.

Hopefully someone will pick him up. Washington definitely has screwed AR pretty hard here. They have not allowed him to show anything to any other teams that may want to pick him up

According to a reporter at the Washington Post, Al got one play the other night as a gunner on special teams. The ball has been thrown his way once in a preseason game, and it wasn't very close to him.
