I wonder if Orsini is looking into a game on the West Coast for future schedules since we are recruiting there so well. It might be worth it. Maybe SDSU or UCLA.

Hopefully he is looking for a&ms replacement for next year
Re: California Opponent
When asked about possible games in the midwest during an alumni event in Chicago a couple weeks ago, the impression given by SO was that he wanted to keep things fairly local for the foreseeable future.

I'm sure any of the directional schools located in the bordering states would be happy to replace A&M,NickSMU17 wrote:Hopefully he is looking for a&ms replacement for next year

I was told by an Assistant A&M AD last month that A&M intends to play that game in Dallas-I don't really believe that but that's what he said

Funny how i was told same thing from our side...
Re: California Opponent
I've been told this too, that after the San Antonio idea was abandoned (by TAMU, we were always on board), everyone is very skeptical about TAMU coming to Dallas next year. Maybe, in the context of conference realignment, TAMU might need extra games on its schedule if it will technically independent for 2012.NickSMU17 wrote:Stallion wrote:I was told by an Assistant A&M AD last month that A&M intends to play that game in Dallas-I don't really believe that but that's what he said

I heard TAMU would only play us in SA next year. Granted I don't even remember my source, so it probably isn't legit. If SA was truly abandoned, I don't see them playing us at Ford. Maybe Cotton Bowl (would that be a neutral site game?), but I think even that would be a stretch.
If we could sell out the CB, I would imagine that would be a nice monetary windfall for the program. The downside is even if our alums and fans did step up (stretch), we could put 40 - 50k max in that place leaving at least 30K A&M fans, so the atmosphere would feel like an away game.

I don't believe that we would ever get even 30k of home fans. We play ATM at a big stadium and it is 60k of them and 20k of us, max.RE Tycoon wrote:I heard TAMU would only play us in SA next year. I really wouldn't mind a clash between SMU and SDSU-don't even need a return home and home -great vacation-but I doubt SDSU would want us out there.

Re: California Opponent
Good games out West with potential:
Stanford - likes to recruit in Texas and isn't afraid to schedule teams from other parts of the country (particularly competitive academic universities)
UCLA - another Texas area recruiter that has played SMU in past
Fresno State - always looks to have tough schedule (typically BCS teams but has been open to others in past)
Utah - with new Pac 12 schedule needs to recruit more in Texas
Arizona - has traditionally been active in Texas recruiting
Personally, I'd love them to come out here and have a return game in Dallas.
Because of the lack of history in California, SMU doesn't have the high negatives from texas high school coaches (who have an opinion & history on SMU) nor college recruiters who compete against SMU both on and off the field, thus it is still a fertile recruiting area for SMU.
Big issue is that the schedule is set so far out that it may be an issue for the short term. The conference realignment however make for quite a few schedule changes.

ATM would have to buy it out at a hefty price I bet. This is the home and home and I bet they keep their gate, we keep ours. The one years ago was the money game.Stallion wrote:I was told by an Assistant A&M AD last month that A&M intends to play that game in Dallas-I don't really believe that but that's what he said

Its not their game to pick the venue. IT's our home game.
If they do their massive 1 year expansion of the stadium, look for aTm to play all their "home" games away (Reliant, Jerryworld, Alamodome).

Copeland and Crew made original contract for a&m, buyout is tiny...they will not be visiting.
