Not sure how difficult it would be with whatever format the board is using, but having external links open in a new window or tab would be nice.

I do that currently, but it's a nice feature many other forums have.

1) As a general rule of thumb for a website, its good for visitor retention.
2) For the less computer literate, it makes navigating back to PF easier.
