Two things. First, the hurry up offense was being displayed on behalf of the defensive so they would be prepared on how to react. Second, we will be playing slow in this game to take as much time off the clock as possible. We want to keep A&M off the field while at the same time hopefully scoring with most possessions.

Be prepared for Padron to the sidelines again this year. I personally see no problem with it. Someone has to carry the play in and it might as well be him as opposed to a guard or tackle running in and passing it on to Padron who is standing around waiting for the call. Or standing still trying to decipher hand signals. He is in good enough condition to handle it. Whenever we have been in 2 minute mode he does not go to the sideline so it is obvious that Jones uses the technique to not only call the play but to point out aspects that may be easier to do while in action than after the fact on the sideline when the defensive is on the field.

Those that do not like it are free to feel otherwise but my belief is that it will still happen so you best be prepared to see it continue.

Thursday (8/25/11) MORNING practice report

I am prepared to see it continue, and for all the reasons you mentioned which are valid, but I would still like us to go up tempo at least some of the time. I think it could throw the defense off to change up at least some.

I have always thought that in addition to the reasons you mentioned Jones does it to let the receivers rest. He never subs them and at least two of them run fly routes on almost every play. If he went to a faster pace on offense he would have to sub receivers more I suspect.

Also, I think he envisions his offense as being about to score within the next 1 or 2 plays at all times so he probably thinks every drive should be 2 minutes even if 1 of those minutes is spent with him talking to the qb.

I think that was to simulate the A&M offense

Does he jog out to meet them?

I would like some occasional hurry up also but I do not expect any for this game. I think we will see a lot of Zach, and snaps with 1 second left on the 25 second clock.

Did not mean to imply that I hoped we did it this game, just at some point in the season. Agree this game is one to eat clock when possible.

i fully expect to see KP go to the sideline but I, too, would like to see a little faster pace sometimes. Hope JJ has a cool trick play or two to catch the ags off guard.
