Stolen Logic for SMU to big 12 - STABILITY

Postby ponydawg » Mon Aug 29, 2011 10:19 am

Read something in the Oklahoma paper where the author was saying how UH or SMU would be a poor choice for the big 12. And that the big 12 needed to aim bigger. One OU fan had a great point in our favor.

Somewhere on the NewsOK, an article made a very important point. OU wants stability. More money is nice, but not “needed”. What they want is members that are committed to the league. They are tired of the drama.
BYU is mentioned as a good pick to bring more TV revenue to the league, but can they bring stability? BYU left the MWC because of its poor TV deal. In joining the Big 12, BYU would appear on TV less than their independent deal with ESPN. Would they stay in the Big 12 if they were only on a couple of times a year? The church’s goal is exposure. That would be a step backward.
Trammel dismisses Houston and SMU as “reforming the SWC”, while overlooking that very important aspect to OU. Those teams would bring stability to the league. Why? Because they WANT to be in the Big 12.
The Big 12 should be actively considering any team that expresses interest, rather than trying to fish up teams to bring in more revenue. Projected revenue is worthless if the leage falls apart.

And yes, its still a huge long shot, but sounds good to me!

Plus, Dallas as a regular destination for all Big 12 teams for all sports. This would mean 40+k @ routinely at a expanded Ford. Only UT and possibly OK would need a bigger venue. Stability, location and quality.

UH has to be taken into the Big 12. Do you want 6 SEC games in the College Station/Houston area and no Big 12 games if you Texas? What happens of A&M actually does well in the SEC? The will own media coverage and casual fans, taking away money and recruits from Texas.

Ahhhh...the greedy horns...which is why the big 12-3 will eventually implode.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
