have to chime in on Sonny's. i work w/ my dad, so we eat lunch together often. he grew up with Sonny's kids, and he has good old day's syndrome, and is blinded by the fact that sonny's sucks. i have to go the the location on lovers about once every 2 weeks. gotten to the point that all i get is either a baked potato (no meat) or a chicken salad.

sonny's isn't worth a damn. the best bbq i've found (other than 1st & 10's ribs) is lockhart in bishop arts. other than that you have to get WAY out of dallas.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Nothing wrong with the SMU JDC (Joining Daddy's Company) degree. I got mine too.

I used to go to Sonny's (inwood rd ?) almost every Sunday in FB season and get some ribs and beef. Great BBQ but after he sold out the quality went to pot. I also used to enjoy Angelo's (?) in ft. worth.

I second Lockhart in Bishop Arts District. Only been once but was excellent. Will be going back soon

Anybody tried Pecan Lodge? It's getting good reviews...
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

Pecan Lodge is just as good or better than Lockhart. The folks know how to smoke their meat.
Think they use mesquite which leaves a solid smoke ring and renders out the fat nicely.
Brisket is perfection, sausage and ribs are top notch. Burnt ends are a must if they have them available. Sauce is well done as well (has a nice peach finish if I remember correctly.) Its inside the farmers market bldg. A must go for sure.

Litterally just finished off some Lockhart's brisket and beans. Both were wonderful. Haven't tried Pecan Lodge.

Went to PLodge for lunch and it was fantastic. Got brisket/ribs combo and they both were some of the best ive ever had. Brisket had a great bark w/a nice smoke ring. Nice and tender and not too dry.
Ribs were off the charts great (smoked perfectly) with a nice rub and then a small amount of sauce cooked in for glaze.
There were even some Oregon fans in town for the game that heard they had to come there.
Word gets around.
Tried to post a pic but it wont upload, wtf?

yes, Pecan Lodge is good. Tiny shack in the Farmers Market inside.
Mostly a catering joint from what it seems. Simple chairs, nothing fancy in terms of the place itself.

Ribs and brisket combo plate is worth the trip.

I'm not sure that I saw any SMU gear in the restaurant. He must not want to [deleted] off his UT clients. Extremely nice guy - talks to everyone. I really like Black's ribs - they have mail order too.

Dutch- you should be pleased that you have continued/improved on the quality of the Point After. Most place who change ownership lose the quality/ambiance of the original owner. JMHO.
