SMU Campus setting for CBS Sunday Movie

Postby smu'06 » Mon Jan 21, 2002 12:00 am

Dallas Hall is in prominence in tonight's CBS Movie - The President's Man - while SMU is labeled as "Texas University" It is obvious to that it is really SMU. Also the class room Chuck Norris teaches in looks similar to those on the hilltop.

Also of note Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison has a small role.

Just a FYI.

Oh and if anyone hasn't noticed - the QB and #1 Draft Pick in Jerry Maquire in wearing a SMU jersey in his poster in Maguire's office before leaving SMI.

Nice work, Ebert

You also know, don't you, that Dallas Hall and the surrounding area represented Syracuse in "Born on the 4th of July"

Word is PonyPower can be seen in the background of a couple of scenes.

I worked on Jerry Maguire. I was excited to see they somehow picked SMU for the kid's school. As they dressed the sets, there was actually more SMU stuff, but it ended up getting covered up. Bummer. Also they had the character of Cushman's dad holding a SMU mug when Jerry is visiting. Only bummer is they had him move it so it almost totally covered up the SMU logo.

Usually this stuff happens when the film production doesn't get clearance. Made me think back then that they didn't get SMU to allow it, which was a mistake in my estimation.

They recently filmed a cell phone commercial on campus. It was fantastic.

I have been told by a "little birdie" that not only was Jeff Pennington trying out for the movie but also two of my fellow brothers were at the auditions Steve and Shane O'Neil. Rumor has it Jeff was a little disappointed because he has been looking at getting in to acting, he was planing on moving to LA, not sure how this effect his decision.

Why didn't you mention some Flock of Seagulls anology? I was waiting for your post to end with: my two brothers tried out, whom women Flock to Of as if they were Seagulls." Or something like that.
