Football-Track

Postby PonyTales » Mon Jan 21, 2002 10:21 pm

Saw the note on PonyFans.com from Joyous that Chris Cunningham is training with the track team. If my memory holds, Kevin Garrett also runs track. And I assume the Griffin kid (freshman) runs track. Does this mean SMU will finally have a good team of sprinters?

Anyone know who else is doing track? I think Lute Croy throws. What about Freeman? Someone wrote that Bennett pulled him back from the basketball team -- can he run track? Who else?

Seems like every time the TV stations do a story about Miami or Florida State or someone having great speed, they always show the same guys representing the school on the track. Maybe this is a good way for our guys to go.

I keep hearing this "Bennett pulled Freeman out of basketball." Why would Bennett pull him out of basketball and then let others join The track team? I think Freeman left the b-ball team because he wasn't getting any PT.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Football players that participate in track actually participate in competition. Also, there is no contact and it is harder to get injured in track.

Dement wanted Freeman as a practice player, whether he admits it or not. Freeman was not seeing any PT, so why should Bennett let Dement have him as a body in a sport where injuries can happen easily?

I think Bennett made the right move. I think Bennett has made a lot of good moves. I like Bennett.

Freeman was not going to run because he wanted to do basketball instead. Maybe this has changed now. Jonas is also running.
